Decided late last night to make a run today before the wex turned bad. Went out to the 440 line where the break went from 72 - 77 within a mile. Found a huge weedline and trolled it for a while, pulled 10 really nice dolphinn off that weed line. made a turn through the canyon and picked up a skippy. Ran through Waynes world, very slow, we saw one school of YFT but they went down by the time we got to em. Decided to go back to the weedline and get some more Mahi. Long story short, bailed 33 Dolphin and most of them were gaffers.

Had Don, Dave (billable), Brian Stedman, Otter onboard. I'm sure Don will have more details as he wrote everything down !......Here's a couple of shots...Bob

I expect no one but the today's crew to get this but........ it was the best Mahi fishing since that day back in 1984. Check the record books and magazines!

Had a blast all day turning that beautiful yellow Southport rig blood red.

Nice work guys! Glad you hooked up. Looks like the Mahi are getting bigger and other reports show some YFT are getting more frequent. yourock.gif

I obeyed the NOAA forcast and went surfing instead of fishing. Sounded like it was going to get too big for my britches (23 CC) but after all the reports - I SHOULD HAVE GONE FISHING party-smiley-028.gif

To make things worse, I'm booked for non-fishing events both days next weekend. I may try to sneak out on Fri or Mon if possible.

Bob and crew,
thanks for the call to go! This was one of those times where we out smarted the weather man, but by days end, you could tell it was going to get really nasty. If we stayed an hour longer, it would not have been pretty.

It was great first thing to have 3 spreader bars get knocked by cutting dolphin. We had 2 rainbow spreaders out and a pink squid bar that Billable had put together. The dolphin were crashing the spread from under the weeds and you'd see their dorsals as they raced acrossed!! Hot baits on the troll were Blue/White Get Reel Conga Line and the rainbow spreader bars of Bob's. On the bail we used ballyhoo, shrimp, skipjack belly, then skipjack guts, then skip jack. It was aweseom to see a school of over 100 baffer dolphin under the boat, all between 10 and 15 pounds. Even chunked up a Sun Fish, aka Mola Mola!.

Thought we were going to get into the tuna thick when we saw several leaping out of the water, but..not to be.

Great fishing with you guys!!

Andrew, thanks for the victory salute on the way in. How'd you guys do??

PS I've got some action shots I'll post once I get the pics developed...digital mixed-smiley-002.gif

Bob,
Thanks for the opportunity to fish with you guys and enjoy the Southport! While I missed the hot breakfast sandwiches from the galley, it sure was nice to get out to the fishing an hour earlier via the smooth, fast run from Still Thinkin. You and the crew worked the boat to perfection, and the comaraderie was first class. A fishing day to remember and be thankful for. Your wife is a fish-packaging machine, and she had her work cut out for her yesterday! Thanks again.
Tight lines.
Dave

Pretty work guys all that fun and some fine meat for the grill as well!! Sorry I couldn't make it but duty called and I'm back in South Dakota. One of the locals told me this morning that he caught a 5 pound small mouth in the river last week. I told him to bring it on over and I'll teach him how to rig it on a bridle for marlin. I'm not real popular with the natives now.... biggrin.gif Looking forward one day to a ride in that rapidly becoming ledgendary Southport Bob. Catch'em up gentlemen!

MM, you ought to take advantage of being in SD and ask that guy to take you fishing. A 5 lb smallie is an acomplishment and a lot of fun.

You're absolutely right Splitshot. A 5 lb smallie is a catch of a lifetime. Best I've ever done was about 3 lbs up on the James River. I'll have to bring some gear with me next time.

Here's some action shots from the trip. I miss my digital camera!!
