Fished saturday 9/16 although it was more like a 15 round boxing match. As I drove Water Dog under the Lesner Bridge through the WHITECAPS in Lynnhaven Inlet with rain pelting me in the face at 20 knots, up in the tower, I was thinking - I bet this is going to be an interesting day. Banged out to the Cigar at 20 knots in a 4 foot steep chop through 2 thunderstorms. Set the spread at 41200/26825 in 35 fathoms. In 15 min. had 5 foot wahoo tear through hitting two baits but not coming tight. Boats to the south were hammering yellow fin in 40 fathoms --Backlash had 10 by 9:00 oclock. We got two nice yellowfins there and were lasered 5 times by wahoos. A guy at the weather bouy said he had 6 wahoos on at once (seemed credible too) and wound up with 2 of them. Found a hugh weed mat at 41170/26825. Hooked a good gaffer there and lost it at the boat. All this while fighting through three new thunderstorms in pouring rain. At 3 pm the wind came up to about 25 and we quit. Had a hellish ride in 6 ft STEEP chop with some bigger. It got bigger as we got closer to the beach until I tore up the connections on the starboard engine electronic box at the Light Tower - after flying off a big wave. If you are wondering, we were in a 39 foot boat that weighs 30,000 lbs.
Took a deep breath and bore on -on 1 engine-got to the slip at 8:30 pm. If you are going Sun. 40 fathoms was the ticket 200 line to 000's. Heard two blues and one white caught at 41080. Good luck I'm heading to bed, as the whole house is rocking. Gotta love offshore fishing. Nothing like it.
On Course

Thanks for the report Gradyman. I fished with Capt. Harold Smith on the Spray Friday. We caught 5 Nice YellowFin and kept one Dolphin that got Billed on the way in.The Ground Swell was 8 to 10 foot and the wind picked up at about 1pm.We fished until 3 pm.That Gillikin made it all seem easy.I am going to look at them in Harkers Island who knows I might come home with a real boat.I got my Coast Gaurd 6 Pack Certificate Saturday Finally now it wont be long until its a Job.

Congratulations on the six-pack Keith. That certificate takes alot of work. You would make an ideal charter skipper. You know how to fish virtually every species and you have the right tempermate for it. I think I could get alittle corporate charter business if you would like to try.
Go for it dude. This your chance. Goodtiming.
Like my doctor friend says--"I don't have any deathbed patients saying -man I'm glad I spent the last 10 years of my life woking my ass off for more money, instead of doing something I loved".

I am definately not doing it to get wealthy money wise but my soul will be as wealthy as it can get out there.I just want an excuse to fish every day and not feel guilty. When I am ready to sell the Seacraft I will offer it to this site first before I put it on the regular market. It is an awesome little boat .

Im not sure if I am going to get a Gillikin yet but it is on my list. The only negative thing I could say about them is they are almost too light I like how a heavier boat rides better but with gas prices Gilikin might be more efficient to operate.

EARLYTIMES

Next time they're WILL BE wire on the red & blacks! Those damn Hoo's ate everything except for the reels!! Like Kent it was a long day but got some sizable tunas. We fished near Steve on the Backlash most of the day, in-sight of him at times. Steve butchered them as he usually does!

Earlytimes makes a good point guys.
Those wahoos are swarming on the 150 line. Our fluorocarbon wilted under the pressure--you gotta wire em up. I re-rigged a bunch of red and black seawitches and Islanders last night with #12. Several guys were saying that ALL of their tuna/mono baits got bit off.
