I fish the middle upper bay alot but with little success. I see all these deadrise boats and big 50' sportfishers complete with outriggers(why), and plenty of drifters but never one report.
I submit the Upper Bay fishing stinks! Maybe the flats are hot for rockfish but man ......a report would be nice every once in awhile whether good or not.

well im on the southern part of the bay, but my uncle lives up near st michaels, he said this year has sucked horribly. he doesn't fish the bay, but the choptank river. he can't explain it. with the water temps starting to cool the rock have been coming up in the creeks and been available from shore with peelers and softcrabs. went up there friday night for a quick trip with the fam, fished saturday morning with my uncle and caught 15 rock in the morning. fun times, here are the biggest two:

I will say this morning I went on the back deck and there were 8 very large menhaden on the back deck. Seas picked up 3-5' w/ SW winds 25kts. I got a strong scent of fish last night and knew we were going through a bunch of bunker as we were heading into Baltimore.

I'll be trollin down to Cockpit point tommorrow.

good luck. the rock we caught had either softcrabs, hard crabs, or menaden in there stomachs. the bigger ones were all crab. the biggest one we caught had 2 whole soft crabs in his stomach. i couldnt' tell the difference, but my uncle pulled it out and was like this is two crabs. i guess working on the water your entire life will teach you those things

I spent the last 10 dat in Southern MD on the Potomac on the MD side across from Colonial Beach. Swans Point/ Cobb Island area and was casting striper stump jumpers 3/8 oz from the shore and from boat and was catching about 20-25 stripers per day. All were 2-5 lbs maybe a couple 6's until the wind started blowing last weekend. The fishing almost disappeared. Wednesday used some fishbites to catch some spot and sent them out live from shore and they would not stay out longer than 10 minutes, sometimes just a minute or two before a striper or 4-5 lb catfish would eat the spot. I used two rods on the end of a pier and caught spot with one and put the spot on the other and stayed busy for 3-4 hours on both sides of high tide. Was great fun. Nothin huge but just big enough to get my arm tired using light tackle. Best news for me was they all looked healthy except for two. Last year I was luckey to see two healthy ones out of 50. Using circle hooks through the nose of the spot really worked. Did not get one gut hooked but always in the corner of the mouth.

I fished cockpit point (up the Potomac) the other day with no luck.'
Set up over a couple obstruction at Piney Point agian.
Good God there are some huge crabs up here!!!!!!
