I will be heading out of the Lynnhaven boat ramp and beach facility this Saturday and wanted to check and see if anyone knows what is biting out there and where. I am not to familiar with the area and read a post about Cape Henry and strippers biting and don't know if that's true. Any pointers would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Ochavostudios,

Puppy drums are biting, average size caught this morning is about 22", gray trouts, flounders and croakers.

I also plan on fishing friday & saturday and plan on targeting flounder & croker. Any ideas on where to fish would be helpful. Also what are specks and how do you catch them.

Thanks! Where is "under lesner" and how do you get there from Lynnhaven?

Piper,

We caught 37 Croakers back in August at the tunnel of the birdge, not far from the fishing dock.

Lesner is the bridge you go under if you were going into the Bay from Lynnhaven. Stripers like to hang around the pylons of the bridge. For flounder, you can go and drift over the tunnel of the bay bridge tunnel. Croakers, you can catch pretty much anywhere if they're still around (I have fished for them recently). "Specks" are Speckled Trout, you can catch them in the Lynnhaven River along the grass lines (along with puppy drum) using grubs fresh cut bait and shrimp.

Thanks, mlbowman1, I will give that a try.

What are the rules for keeping strippers? I think it's two max per person and must be over 18 inches long

The season doesn't start until October 4th so right now they all have to be realesed. Here is a website for the regulations. Scroll down to the bottom and there is a printable version of both striper and all other fish that you can keep in your tackle box (this is what I did)
http://www.mrc.state.va.us/regulations/swr...shingrules.shtm
wetboat
2 per person in the follwoing combinations

2 between 18 and 28 inches
1 between 18 and 28 inches and 1 over 34 inches

The VMRC regulations can be confusing the way they read on the website
