ALLRIGHT, I'm a newbie when it comes to posting here, but I'm an avid reader of the forum. I just recently moved back to the area and I'm ready for striper season to start. Problem is, most of my striper experience comes from the OBX, fishing the inlet sound/ocean in a much larger boat than I have now.(16') Closest spot for me to fish is the MMBT, unless I can get a calm day and put in at one of the others. So now to my question. Anyone have some tips for fishing the MMBT? Troll, cast, live bait?? Any suggestions/advice will be helpful. I'm used to just trolling or casting bucktails, so I need some other strategies. Thanks to all.

Early in the year I like to use live bait around the pilons at night, that's not saying that you can't catch them on artifical, but I prefer to keep a couple of live baits on the bottom. Once you get them set you can pull out your casting stuff and just pitch the light line. For the live bait I like to use a fishfinder rig with just enough weight to hold bottom, couple of feet of 40lb florocarbon leader, and a 7/0 or 8/0 circle hook. If your using circle hooks remember "DON"T SET THE HOOK", just put your rod tip down and reel like crazy. Hope this helps and good luck to you............

Welcome,
Recommend you go to the second page of posts and take a look at the string started by Skinny's Kid titled "Early Season Striper Fishing Tips". All of that stuff will work at the MMBT. Also, you should be able to fish the HRBT with your boat and I have seen similiar boats at the CBBT but I would really watch the weather if you try that one.

I like chunking with FRESH menhaden at the MMBT. You can pick a spot along the bridge or anchor over the tube. I use 7/0 or 8/0 gamakatsu octopus circles on a fishfinder rig with chunks on the bottom. Make sure that you have enough bait to get a good chunk line going when you get there. Freshen up your bait every ten minutes or so. I have caught decent fish every time that I have chunked there. I will hopefully be out there Wed., Thurs., and Fri. Good luck!
