Annual Meeting of Saltwater Tournament Committee Set

The annual meeting of the Tournament Committee of the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament will be held Wednesday, October 25th at Marina Shores in Virginia Beach. The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:45 pm in the Pool Lounge.

The meeting will begin with a public comment period, providing anglers an opportunity to address the Committee with their suggestions and concerns relating to the operation and policies of the program. Following the public comment period, the Committee will proceed with its formal meeting. A copy of the meeting agenda is attached.

I. Review 2006 Program - Review entries for 2006, recent trends, and consider
impacts on program; review program philosophy
embraced last three years to make Citation standards true
“trophy” standards and how raising several minimums
has impacted program; reaffirm our long range program
philosophy and how plans can be made to ensure program
is consistent to our goals for “trophy” catches and
conservation.

II. Release Program - Review changes made to program for 2006, which dropped
release recognition for several species of fish

III. Flounder - Consider impact of continued large number of
Citations registered with regard to possible
increase in minimum award standards

IV. Spot - Review impact of raising minimum to 1 lb., 2 oz.; consider
whether Citation standard should stay or be lowered back
to 1 pound

V. BluelineTilefish - Request for inclusion in Citation and State record
programs

VI. Citation Certificate - Combining catches and releases

VII. State Record Program - Remove spearfish from eligible list

VIII. Citation Appeals - Formal appeals of denied Citations

IX. Public Comment Period - Public comment invited at 6:45 pm. Meeting will start at end
of public comment period.
