Try Piney Point. That place is the Mecca for schooly rocks. Small spoons will do the trick.

A 14"-20" is average there.

Cockpit point is another good place.

If you are going by boat try anchoring by any lighted pier you can find.

Scale down your tackle and spinning gear.

Have fun and let us know how you do. There are not enough post about that great fishery.

The previous entry mentioned finding a good light...that is a lot of fun off of the Potomac. I grew up in Monroe Bay. There are a couple of very good spots to fish the lights there as well as one darn good place to eat at the entrance (Dockside Rest.). The day fishing there this time of year can be hit or miss so it is nice to have a nighttime plan on reserve. I have a bunch of friends and family who are always out there fishing but have had luck... and the lack there of with just about every type of lure at lots of different depths. A couple of good points to keep in mind is that the fish will often school up so keep an eye out for the birds and that the locals don't hide much on the radio. If someone is catching something out there you will hear about it on the radio. There are a lot of friends out there scattered on different boats. You won't just hear about fish being caught...you will hear with what lure, color, depth, speed, location, all that good stuff. Good luck.

By the way VBSF.net has a new sponsor for 2007. St Marys Yachting Center, it's the old Dennis Point Marina and Campground located on the north side of the Carthagena Creek, which is just off the St Mary's River, which feeds into the Potomac River about 5 miles inside the Chesapeake.

Jim has ask us to design a new website, it's under construction. Jim owns Long Bay Pointe Marina and Solomons Yachting Center. When he takes over a marina you can expect good things! Lots of upgrades!
