Gotta work this weekend so I took off yesterday from Ft Monroe at 12:30. Started bottom bouncing the tube just off the Fort.

Marked alot of fish in the 35-55' range on the bottom just on the bay side of the tube. After about an hour or so of the bottom bouncing, managed to put a 28" rockfish in the live well using a 6 oz inline sinker and a bucktail with a 6" sassy shad (chartroise).

Moved over to the other side of the tube and bumped around the pilings throwing a white bucktrail tipped with a 4" sand eel (Red, Chartrouis and Pink) combinations. Pulled in about 15 or so schoolies in the 18-20" range. After that I anchored up on the bay side and fished the last part of the incoming tide in about 20' of water with fish finder rigs and circle hooks baited up with menhaden chuncks. Pulled in anorther 6-8 fish all around 20-24" range. Because of shore based commitments (Trick or treators) I had to call it a night/day just as the tide was shifting.

All in all a great day. Arms are sore from all the casting and reeling in of big fish laughing_smiley.gif

Were you the only boat at the HRBT when an ugly bayliner with a flybridge showed up at about 4pm? If so nice job on catching thoses fish. We threw everything we had in the boat, including bunker but got no fish? I think perhaps my 15lb test is too much for the smaller lures used at this time of year. Also fished the CBBT from 10am to 3pm with no takers trolling or casting at the rocks and pilings. We'll get em next time!!

Yup, that was me. Don't get out much by my self. Tried a bunch of stuff that everyone has been recommending on the page, along with some stuff I learned from Dr Jims videos and 3 years now of plugging at them.

I am originally from Minnesota and love fishing. Rockfish are becoming a fobia with me. Like Cobia, flounder, Spades etc but can't wait for Striper season.

Next time yell at me on the radio, I don't mind someone as curtiuos as you were trying to get a bit closer. Before you got there I had guys actually troll so close I thought they were gonna get my anchor.

As far as line I found that 15lb test is fine but now use 20lb test. I get hooked/hit the pilings so many times that it lasts a bit longer. Anyway, hope you have better luck next time.

Gimme a shout on 68 when you hit the water next. If I am out there, as with most of the guys on this site, I will answer and tell ya were I am at and if I am catching them food-smiley-004.gif

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Dr. Jim DVD's. Mailman thinks I'm nuts camped out by the mailbox....,
