Put the boat in the Water at Owls Creek at 0330 this morning, temp was reading about 33 degrees, frigging freezing....Underway for the warm Water eddy at the 030 line in about 100 Fathoms or so. Go tthere at approximately 0700 or so...put out a full spread, sea witches, islanders, Cedar Plugs, spreader bars....about 0730 we had our first fish on the Blue/White sea witch..boated about a 35 pound YFT. Marked it with my MOB and made another run through there....Nice YFT slams the Cedar Plug in the prop wash...I love a flatline bite....boated this guy, he probably goes 40 or so...troll my MOB mark a couple more times with nadda...troll back north and get to about the 50 line and we get our first triple header of the day....land all three fish in the 40 pound class....troll through again and get a couple of hits but don't come tight....pick up a couple of more singles, mostly on Blue white Islanders, Get Reel conga line...G&H Islander (lost my G&H Lure today)...hit the 100 line, water goes from 71.4 to 72.5, get another triple header..land them all...one more after that in the box...we probably had at least 20 hits today...boated a total of 11, 30 pound to probably 50 pound class YFT...had Otter, Paul, Joe, John and myself onboard..great day...here's a couple of Pics...Bob

Nice job guys. I was near you guys in the green hydra-sports, tried to call you on the radio (68, 72, 79) but you guys looked busy in the cockpit. We only managed 4 in the boat as it was just the wife and I and we lost as many fish as we boated. But it was a nice day...seas a bit bumpy but manageable.

I'm new to the area and am very familiar with offshore trolling, but do not know the fishing season or places. Can anyone help out? How long are the tuna around? What about fishing in the winter.

Tcroak,
Welcome to the board. Offshore fishing out of here is great. Right now we have some great tuna action going on around the Cigar and points south. Some guys with trailered boat will go down to NC and fish out of Oregon Inlet. Its a shorter run and its much closer to the Gulf Stream right now.
Bluefin are starting to show up now closer to shore about 25-35 miles out. This can be a shorter season as they migrate south.
Spring season kicks off again down south out of hatteras, NC and Oregon Inlet. This runs from April through June. Things will pick up here in June(depending on water temps, etc) and run through Sept/Oct. Tuna usually throughout then dolphin, marlin and wahoo.
I would get an offshore chart like Capt Seagull's #CMCH20 that covers offshore from Cape May,NJ to Cape Hatteras(Long bay Pointe bait and Tackle should have them). That way you become familiar with the areas we talk about. If you get a chance, come to our monthly Meet and Greets to meet and talk with some of the guys/gals from the board. Its a real informal night of sharing stories and having a few drinks with people that share the passion. If you head out, put a post up a day or two before to see if there are others going to buddy up with. this is a great board and the guys/gals are very helpful.
Good luck to you and Catch 'em Up!!

PS where you from??

Don,
Thanks for the info! My name is Tim. I am a transplant from Charleston, South Carolina and just arrived here today. I'm really itching to go out and get some fish since the trip last weekend in Miami could have been better.
Any recommendations on local fishing shops that'll know some helpful info and bait?
Thanks,

Tim,
Connie and Steve at Long Bay Pinte Bait and Tackle(481-7517). Steve runs a charter business as well and has a ton of info. They sell both live bait and frozen ballyhoo and flats of chunking bait. They'll be glad to help you out!!
