Fished offshore with Bob Manus, Charles Southall, and David Brabrand. We were ready for everything. We planned to try for bluefin early, move out and try for yellowfin and since the water temps did not look great for yellowfin, we were ready to do some deep-dropping so Bob could break his wife's world record. He said something about her getting hard to live with. Well, no bluefin at the 10 Fathom Lump. Ran out to the 100 fathom curve for yellowfin. Hooked up a real nice one that turned out to be a bluefin. 2 more of those and then we found the yellowfin. We released the bluefin after collecting a DNA sample for VIMS. The bite was very good. The hot spot was about the 41150. They bit everything. We stopped when we had our 12 fish limit. Good thing there is a limit on those things or we would still be cleaning fish. We never got around to deep-dropping so Jen's record still stands which is probably a good thing for Bob.

This is the smallest of the 3 bluefin we caught. None were big. This one had a 41 inch fork. The other 2 had 45 in forks. I had the bright idea of having Charles hold this one for a photo. That fish kicked his butt.

Ken, were you in the 30' ftr? We were the only other boat with you. Had a quick good day also. Everything hit the ballyhoo on top. Did you have any deeper lines out? I marked alot of fish deeper.

Happy Thanksgiving.
Yes that was us. My bottom machine was out so I was not marking anything. When we were inshore looking for bluefin, we had a bait behind a downrigger and two way back off of the long riggers. When we moved out to the 100 fathom curve, we still put the downrigger out and it got bit once without a hook-up. The bluefins were all caught on surface baits. When we got into that yellowfin bite, we stopped putting out the down bait. We were going to put it back out when the bite slowed down which never happened.

Tunas are still there. Yesterday's report from Capt. Buzzy Evans of the Striker:
Yes Sir, We got them good! I forgot my camera but I hope to get some shots from Paul Micheals. Anyway we fished from the 045 to the 000's with a couple of other private boats and everyone had a great day. We filled the box with 17, they were the 35-45 lb. class fish, nice! Our smallest was 25lbs. but he got eaten on the way in by either a big Sword or a lost Blue Marlin. What a trip! We were fighting the fish and all of a sudden the guy in the chair says, "Man this isn't a tuna this is something big and he is going crazy" and for a few seconds the line was peeling off the reel. Then it was kind of a non-event until I saw the fish coming to the boat and it looked like someone had been pulling it behind a truck. No teeth marks just a lot of thrash marks and raw skin and jaw marks just behind the gills. So, who knows, we will never know. I thought at first Blue Marlin just because of the size of the tuna and the size of the jaw mark but I guess it could have been a large Sword. That would fit the time of year and temperature a lot better. All the tuna had butter fish in them and were caught over good marks. Hope to go again after the cold front. Talk to you soon, Buzz.
