This is my first year really going for striper, and I was wondering if the color and size of shad bodies mattered. If so, what are some good colors and sizes to get. Thanks in advance.

I've had a lot of luck trolling the 10" soft paddle tail type shad bodies in any shade of chartruse you want. I'm sure the others catch too, but I think the high viz color helps the fish zero in for the kill. Tight lines.

Chartruse is number one for me with red/white a close second.

I am with you on this one! White Pearl shad bodies are tied number 2 with red/white.

Lay the Jig head next to the shad body mark the shad where the hook would come out.Heat the hook with a torch or a lighter then run it down the center line and come out at the mark. Its twice as hard when its 20 degrees out thats where the hook heating is a handy method.

Is a Chesapeake Bay Lure the same thing as a storm?

Yes. As well, Calcutta makes a shad with the weight in them. Storm, Calcutta, and Ches Bay are a more expensive alternative to buying the bodies and jig heads and assembling them youself. You can also buy more color schemes. The jury is out as to whether they work any better.

I have one you can have to copy. Im going to make a few more. Its bucktails with shad bodies daisy chained. It has a snap swivel on the end to attach the MOJO.
Do you guys attach the MOJO directly to the snap, or run a small leader?

I run the Mojo right off the Snap Swivel on the bottom of the daisey chain. This rig was deadly for us last year..especiallly earlly in the season...4 fish at a time on that thing....Bob

I also run the Mojo right off the Snap Swivel on the bottom of the daisy chain. I buy my daisy chains at Princess Anne tackle shop. By the time you add up the cost of making your own, Princess Anne price is comparable and saves time. The only thing I do is cut off a barrel swivel on the top and add a snap swivel to make rigging easier.

Bo,
I don't have a pic but the Storms are just shad bodies without a lead jig head because the weight is inside the body. You can pick them up at most any tackle shop (Storm is the brand name...you can get the same from companies like Ches. Bay Lures and Calcutta). I will looke for a pic).

I find the lighter bucktails 1/4 OZ have better action on a daisy Chain you need to get Quality ones that have good hooks.

I do not a have a pic right now, but it is a daisy chain of bucktails, shad bodies on each bucktail. At the end of the daisy chain is a snap swivel, you attach the Mojo to it. You do this instead of doing the three way mojo thing having the spoon, tomic or storm trailing.
The idea is to have the upper lure/lures in front of the mojo instead of trailing. Also it allows to combine a daisy chain to a Mojo.
Ill get a pic of it to you soon. Like CBfish said Princess anne has them and they are not overly priced. I caught my first Ocean Stripper last year on one.

Yeah that is another version of the daisy chainwith shad bodies. I am thinking of making one, but with storms, or clark spoons. The 2 I have right now are made with bucktails intead of just shad bodies, this will allow for multiple hook ups.

Please post how that daisy chain with the clark spoons turns out. It just seems like it would do a little to much twisting.

Last year I worked at the tackle shop in willoughby. I made alot of the tackle that we sold there for the ocean season. One of my most popular rigs was the Daisy chain. The ones I made held the shad bodies or, storm lures on with the heavy duty snap locks. It gave them plenty of action and when the blues chewed the bait up you could change it. For me it worked great. I didnt have any of them come back with complaints, so I guess everyone was pleased.

Try on of these on for size ! I swear by them . They give so much flash it's amazing . They catch fish too . I'll make them in different sizes and use different trailers at times . It's fun to experiment .
That's a nice looking umbrella rig. When the fish are biting, I love to use a big parachute rig, (like the one you have as a trailer) straight off my main line. They swim well, get down low and are very easy to handle with that big hook. I don't even net 'em--just reach down and grab the head of that lure and pull 'em in the boat.

I just made a reply to another post saying that I learn something new every day. This daisy chain proves my point. I've used them offshore but never thought about making one for stripers. Thanks lot.
