I know were the Hot Ditch in Chesapeake is, but how do you fish it? Do you enter the dich itself, or fish outside it in the inlet? I would like to try it with my son this week.

I like to fish "The Cove" but you can pretty much fish anywhere around the ditch and find fish.
Good Luck.

When you get to the 64 bridge coming from great bridge locks is hot ditch the cut the is to the left or is it a spicific spot up in that cut. I want to take the young one fishing. Where is the power plant located.

i agree with jeff....there are no fish out there................
when cruising around up in there be careful, it can get shallow quick. there is a channel you just gotta find. ive seen people throwing spoons and other lures trying for specks. i heard the cove is the place to be.

The cove does hold some good trout. Also, I have casted small grubs, bucktails, and shads just S. of the bridge and caught schoolie striper. Try some places and share the wealth.

Lets don't forget while we are on a roll..... If you do happen to stumble across one of those fish that aren't there they are diseased and not good to eat even if they are legal size

I also remember earlier this year someone said they seen the original baby ruth floating bye them

Those fish that you speak of are no more diseased than the ones you catch in Rudee Inlet or Lynnhaven. I myself have never eaten any of them but I know several people who do. As a matter of fact thats what they were practically raised on. The 6lb 2oz speck a friend of mine caught inside Rudee last year had a tag in it. That fish was tagged in the ditch 3 years prior. Alot of the fish that are caught around O.V and Lynnhaven migrate to the ditch instead of going south. So if you eat one from Rudee You might as well eat one from the ditch. Thats just my 2 cent. Good luck! By the way don't forget your cast net when you go!!!

True. I didn't really pay attention to the expressions! My appologies. But the real ticket for big trout in the ditch area is to stay away from the extremely warm water. Get yourself some live mullet. Find some fish marking in the mid water range. Set up and free line the live bait in the area. Don't mind the mullet if it swims to the bottom and lays there. Just know that when it does start to move your in good company

The cove is the place if you want to anchor and fish with bait for big fish. For light tackle action (8-12lb) I would start with the area where the ditch empties into the Elizabeth River and just work the shorelines until you find the fish. Small grubs or swim baits (3" or less) work the best.
