Last year it was windy almost every weekend its tough to get winds below 20 knots that time of year. That being said, you'll never know unless you go!!! Would like to buddy boat, when the time gets closer get up with me.

We fished out of Teach's April and May of last year. Strong yellowfin and wahoo bite in April, but May was somewhat slower to the south. The yellowfin bite was better up at the Point with the Oregon Inlet boats doing pretty well. There was a decent dolphin bite from the rockpile south, but spotty otherwise. April is definitely not for the faint of heart, as far as the inlet goes -plan on blowing out 50% of the time, and the other 50% maybe fishable, but likely no walk in park. When I say not fishable, I mean it. If you are fishing a small boat down there, be careful. Things can get way out of hand quickly down there.

It can either be flat as a lake or so rough that 29 ' Southport's get stood up going out of the inlet and 42' and bigger sportfishers surf their way into the inlet...really no walk in the park.

First time I ever fished out of Hatteras was one April about 10 years ago in a 25' Sea Cat. The ride out wasn't bad, once we got to the stream it was easy 7-10 footers. This past May I fished in the Hatteras Village Open in a 60' Hatteras. First 2 days it was probably 4-7 the last day was at least 10 footers. On the ride in on the last day I was standing in the cockpit in a beam sea looking way up at the waves coming at us and I'm 6'4". It can be a lot more than you expect in the winter and spring time. You can't make the decision to go until the night before, maybe even that morning, it's not like the summer time.

Go on the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center website and pull up the Fishing reports. You can keep clicking on the "previous" button at the end of the list of dates and you can check the fishing reports for that time of year in 06 or 05. On days it was blown out they usually post the weather difficulties they had, etc. m It is like getting a look at their log book.

convoy sounds great.. like that old 70's movie ! lets just quit our jobs while were at it. Teachs has old reports on their web too. i now the fish should be their but i think could be a little more sketchy that time of year. gulf runs out of SC are probably 60 miles ? does that sound about right ?
