I used to read alot about using Tomic plugs. I bought one in Chartreuse and tried it as a way back fifth rod lure. I put it out with a small inline trolling sinker and failed to catch anything. What are some different ways to use this lure? Thanks in advance.

We have had limited success with this lure. However, there are a few ways to fish the tomic. You can try a using a three way swivel...the tomic should have 10-15 feet of leader. Then connect a heavy mojo(32-48oz) with 3-5 feet of leader. This will work better for sandy bottoms, not near the tubes or rocky surface.
Another version would be to have the tomic connected to a larger planer with 10-15 of leader. You can try this option near the rocky bottoms. You will have to tinker around to find out what planer is best, or will not knock it off plane.
Good luck to you!

I have been using mine off a three way behind a MOJO. I even tried it behind a small planer. Neither one has produced fish. Tried Chart. and the other one, I put a red/white paint job on to mix it up a bit. Be interested to hear from the vets on this one...

When I`m in the ocean, I got at least 2 - Tomic/MoJo combos in my spread.
Don`t leave home without them....I`ve great success with them, and thats why
I pull them..But, when the bite is on, the stripers will hit anything you drag..When
the bite is slow, thats when you have to " FISH"!!!!!!! Try everything u got till
something works. and then there are days when nothing works!!! They work!!

I've never pulled a Tomic and a Stretch (same color) that the Stretch didn't out perform the Tomic. Just my personal experience.

We had alot of success with them last year. Used them on a three way with Mojos. I only have two (blue and Chartreusse) but I planning on buying some more. I picked them up in the bargain bin at BassPro. I only used them in the ocean in Jan and Feb. I think we caught more on the tomics last year then on the Cripled Alewife spoons and they are alot cheaper. They won't dive like the stretches so you need to put them on a three way with a mojo/ball weight or use an inline sinker.

I agree with Capt. Skid. I like to run one just behind the boat on a 3 way with a mojo. I have also had good success using it as a WFB with a 4 oz inline. The one I use on the inline is the smaller version. For some reason I get the bigger fish on this one. I only use 2 colors and thats chartruese with the green back, and red head white body. I guess they have both put in their time in the past season

We've also had good success with getting strikes on the Tomics behind the Mojo, but I seem to lose a lot of fish with them -- esp. with inexperienced anglers. The least bit of slack in the line and the fish seem to spit it easily. Anybody else have a problem like this with Tomics?

Try changing the single live bait styled hook to one of the double side-by-side hooks. That might have a little bit better set in the fishes lip. I haven't tried it yet but its worth a try.

I'll try that, but everytime I change the hooks on lures it seems to affect the action and I stop getting hits. Although I have tried it on the Tomics. That might be a good idea.
I guess I'll disagree with most on this-- I really like tomics. I generally use the blue with silver back and chartreuse. I fish them all 3 ways--either WTFB on top, with an inline sinker, or off a 3-way with mojo. My first fish this season trolling came off a chart. tomic behind a mojo. I have caught innumerous ocean hogs off tomics. As a matter of fact, one of the hogs that won the Seacraft Tourney last year on the Donna Sea was caught on a chart. tomic trolled wfb on top. The reason I like 'em is they are very easy to use, swim predictably and that big single hook is very easy to handle/net. I can't remember having trouble with hook-ups or spit hooks either. Just my 02 cents. Stretches prob. catch as many/more fish, but lots of hassle. I think we all may have had situations where a wayward stretch decides to tangle all 4 or 5 lines--and I run powerpro so it becomes a biatch to untangle. Do what works for you--they will all work when the bite's on, as someone already said.

I troll them on three ways behind Mojo's also. Be sure to check the lure for a split ring. Same as any other lure that needs to be free to wobble/dive etc. I tie it on with a Rapala knot loop if there is no ring. I had one Tomic that had a welded ring and it broke while being beat around by a fish in the boat. Yet another lost its hook when the ring broke.
Tomics are one of my favorite striper lures and I usually start my spread with at least one. I like the white ones.

I have never had any sucess with tomics and as the stubborn idiot that I am I always find myself with one in the spread. I have only used the chart/black tiger and the red head/white body tomics. I have run them off a mojo and on an inline and I have never had one hit. I usually run a five or six line spread and I have on two occasions that I recall had every line but the tomic go down. I wish you all the success in the world using them but obviously Im not a fan.
...but Ill probably still put one in my spread a couple times this year.

I like Tomics, the chartreuse one is a killer. When the Striper get thick I will catch and release the fish 3X faster than any lure with Treble hooks.Try one as a chaser for an umbrella rig.Put an inline sinker in front of a daisy chain and have a Tomic in the back it is deadly. Tomic are easy to get the fish in the boat just grab the lure ans slide the fish through the splashwell.

fished a week ago trolling the cbbt and a white tomic with red head picked up the only fish of the day...but i do feel like the stretches have a better shot of picking upa fish if its a slow day. I like to pull one of each anyway but then again im not the greatest fisherman...

Me and Donna Sea (POP) have had best results from St 30s and 25s as well, but we have pulled the tomics WTFB on the surface and pulled in some big ones! I have also cast them into the islands and used them as a surface lure and they wroked great.

Do not take the boat out of gear when fighting a fish on the three way mojo/tomic combo. Lost some big fish doing this when my penn 320 wouldn't crank. lesson learned=use heavier tackle with this rig. I wish they made tomics bigger, they are great lures.

Hey Don, sounds like a new lure for the "Get Reel" Line. Time to expand into some inshore stuff.
