12/4:

Flew in from Albany on 12/4 at 5:20 pm was picked up at the airport ( thank you Jeff) and was fishing the high rise by 7:30 pm. Thanks again Jeff.
We had some eels but had no luck on them so we decided to troll. It turned out to be a great choice. We pulled in some nice Rockfish with the biggest going 46 1/2". We had to work to catch smaller ones to fit the slot. Hot bait was 9" storms on the bottom. Home by 2 am
Water temp 50

12/6: Fished the same area and out threw the birds to the 4a area. We caught some nice fish but nothing like the first night. Water temp 50
Called it around 3 pm. Lottsa folks jigging around the birds on light tackle. Great times by all. Birds stretched from the 4th out a couple miles seaside.

12/8:
Left LC @ 7am
Out to the green can to troll bunker spoons, storms, stretches and tomics.
Had one mystery run that spooled my TLD 25. I noticed bluefin skying all around. As I turned the boat to try and get some line back I noticed the tuna jumping and coming right at us and then nothing. As I reeled in it took off again. I handed the rod back to my wife and the line went tight and then snapped off. I lost a lime stretch 30.
At the same time we had another mystery fish which was probably a rockfish that was not running just hanging on the bottom. The rod tip was pumping pretty good as the wife picked up and started the fight some how the hook pulled.
2 fish lost all in a short period. 0-2
We did 2 more laps around the CB and green can with out a bump. We had spoons, cedar plugs, stretches wwwb but nothing.
We picked up and ran to the 4A and trolled back to the 4th catching a limit of 25" rockfish right away. We picked up at the 4th and rolled on in as the winds and seas picked up. Home by 2pm. Water temp 48

Seems like the bigger fish are around the piling at night.

I'm heading out tomorrow looking for Rocks and for those babies. That must have been exciting seeing them busting water. I'll have the big rods on board just in case they start breaking water. Last year I had three mystery runs that broke 80# class gear which I'm inclined to belive they were bluefin. Too bad you didn't land that one.

Tech

Keep some white marlin pitch baits within reach when going under the Lesner. The whites were thick around the Lesner today.
Tech

Two years ago I caught an 80+ inch BFT less than 1/4 mile off Oregon Inlet while striper fishing. The fish was estimated at over 500 lbs. and I have the citation to prove it. It was caught while fishing on the "Fin Galley" or some such charter boat. The fight lasted 45 minutes and we ended two miles away. The fish was released because the season was still days away.

Don't think it can't happen to you at the green can - It can! jumping-smiley-015.gif
Here We Go
I have talked to many who have seen BFT's that close inshore and actually know one person that landed one a couple years back off the green can. You can choose to think it's not so but you're only fooling yourself.

False Albecore are out there, its possible .We had a Bluefin Hook up Off Corolla Light 2 Years ago. Another reason why I would be inclined to believe it is because of all the live Butterfish I have caught in my cast net right off the beach this year.
FISHWATER
Just passin on info for anyone interested.

Those who know about them and have caught them know how lucky we are to live so close to this great fishery.

Hey Tech we share legit info here, there are alot of great anglers on this site who kick around some good stuff.
If you never have fished for them and want to learn how, PM me and I'll show you what I run in my spread.
In this case it was stretches ( same thing we actually landed some on last year).

Tight lines

Hey Bob, let us know how you do. I'm hoping to head out tomorrow morning.

I don't doubt the post for a second. On Jan. 4th we hooked into a bluefin just outside the demarck line at CH. In 20 seonds it spooled a TLD 15 with 50lb braid. Bastard took my favorite umbrella. There was no stopin him...just hold on and watch the line peel all the way to the bottom. If my boat wasn't in the shop still, I'd be lookin for one right now.
FISHWATER
hey gordy
I wont be back from work till the 1st of Jan. but when I get back if you need a ride you are more than welcome to go out with us.
gordy
Thanks for the offer...boat should be finished this upcomin week, but you never know, damn thing has been in the shop for 5 weeks now and it was only suppose to be for 3.. Keep in touch, hell I'll run with you regardless.

Two years ago 1 mile south of Rudee. I was trolling a unbrella with 60# wire and
a 50" leader. Something hit it and keep on going. When my backing was almost
gone I tighened the drag all the way and hung on for a few minutes before
the leader broke.

If you suspect the Bluefin are around be ready. Have less rods out loosen drags so the line doesent pop aND TURN THE BOAT SO YOU CAN GIVE CHASE.
