We bit it too BOB. Had one fat albert and that was it. There was a suspicious Banana that came out as we were coming in to port. Wonder who planted that ????????? Had a great time on Dave's boat. Was a pleasure fishing with everyone. And the Play went fine. My acting Abilities as a Blind man were awe inspiring.

Great time today, plenty of work running the boat, but the fish didn't cooperate. Tried to find the temp break and fish east of the Cigar. Best we hit was 65.5 degrees. Marked fish mostly at 50 feet and deeper, fishing in 125 feet. Ran out a downrigger to target deeper along with the surface spread. One Fat Albert released, three other knockdowns that didn't come tight. The downrigger was hit once, Blue/White Mini onc, Squid spreader bar once, but best of all, the False Albacore was caught on my cedar plug daisey chain that I learned to make from Marlin Maniac who was fished aboard BillableOurs with us today. Thanks George. Had a great exchange of info with a boat out of Rudee, Three Decks. NIce guys and great teamwork. Thanks guys, hope we get on the fish next time. Shifting gears to Striper fishing.
Tight lines,
Dave

Are there Blackfin out there?? I'm pretty sure I caught one. About the same size as a FA, but definitely not a FA. Broad vertical stripes, black fins, black finlets.

Owen's dream should have been a reality. All the conditions were right - nice temp break where the water went from the mid-low 60's to 72 degrees. We marked a lot of fish - but they were deep and would not come up. Mostly charter guys out there - only a couple of small boats.
On to stripers. Funny how we measure time by what type of fishing is taking place.

Bob - I did some digging on the web and I'm convinced it was a blackfin - vertical bands on the sides, spots along the flanks, black fins and finlets and a huge eye. I always thought blackfins were further south.

There are definately Blackfin caught up this way...Not as consistent as down south but for sure it could have been a Blackfin...Here's a PIC

I heard and read some other reports that guys did get into some fish later on in the day. You know with the moon rising so late and the clear skies, they may have been feeding late night early morning and not hungry...just thinking of an excuse why we didn't get any fish!

That altimitry subscription service that Owen won at the party following the billfish tournament showed the area we were in as red - All the fish we marked were on the bottom, around 400 feet. I think something was keeping them down - that may have been where the baitfish were.

What did you guys go further east or stay longer, where did bob and Dave run to in relation to where seaduction caught the fish?
Just trying to research and learn.

I started off south and deeper than where the fish were caught. Dave Trax and I were out around the 950 line in 500 plus Fathoms. That was the warmest water in the area and we were marking fish really deep. One problem I had that day was NO SPREADER BARS. They were sitting in my garage waiting for me to load them on the boat. We had one hit in that area that didn't come tight.
We worked our way into the 000 - 015 area where the fleet was and worked it for about an hour. We called it around 1245 or so and headed in. Wasn't feeling it so we called it early.
All the fish caught Sunday were in 50 Fathom area around the 000 - 020 line, very small area with a ton of boats in the mix......Bob

We had one fish early at 012 line at 50 fa. Since we had good marks, I decided to stay and drill that area. Nothing for the next 3 hours, then one fish around 1230 (while eating lunch, sandwhiches flying through the air), then the triple around 1 pm. Did not have the desire to leave that area because (1) it was too snotty to run anymore (2) didn't hear much happening anywhere else and (3) had good marks and temps (67-69). After that snotty run home, I think I'm for sure, most likely, probably done for the year. Tuna in December...whoda thunk it.
Erik did a a video of the trip. Here it is, enjoy.
