Nice Pic! I'm planning a Striper trip this weekend. I can't decide between Oregon Inlet and Rudee. Any recommendations? Was there a lot of bait/bird activity out of Rudee? Did you fish South or North of Rudee?

I would really appreciate any advice. This will be my only chance to fish for Rocks this year.

Thanks!

I hear they're running a long way to find Striper out of OI. They are catching them on the shoals by backing the boat up to the breakwater and throwing live eels into the breaking waves, this is some serious hardcore fishing and I don't suggest it unless your pretty experienced.

The fishing out of Rudee has been very good, about a 10 minute run north or south will put you into the nice stripers. They could even be right out the inlet. Just gather intel at the ramp or the night before and go hunting bait and birds. You will catch fish......Good luck...Bob

Go to Rudee. You have to fish the shoals or run 35 miles out of OI.

They might turn on down south, but I doubt it. I think you stand alot better chance out of Rudee.

Has anyone actually fished the breakers at Oregon Inlet?

I've been through Inlet breakers a couple of times, just on the way out, that resulted in a refreshed relationship with God after we made it through with a majority of the ocean still on the outside of the boat.

I recently read an article about doing it -- fishing with eels. It sounded like insanity and good way to capsize a boat to me, or is that overstating it?

I have done it several times with Live bait for Cobia on the inside and also a few times on the Out side.I just followed the Locals the first few times.I did it in my 23 footer I dont think the Fun would out weigh the stress in a large boat.

I watched a guy roll a brand new catamaran at OI 2 years ago. It was ugly!
Cool Change
Friends of mine fished th OI shoals today on a charter and they have told me they would not attempt it in our outboards when its churning they call it "the washing machine". If it ain't churning you wont catch much and if it is the capt. cannot fish as he has to stay on the controls non stop to keep the back of the boat in shallow yet not too shallow, or your on your side before you know it. It's just not worth a derned fish. Too boot they rarely catch the ones over 35 lb. in the wash. They did pull 11 out of it today with a 35 lb. being the big boy for em.

Oh, this sounds like a lot of fun.
I think I'm going to take a pass on this approach to stripers. I don't think my guts or insurance are up to it.
