Left Lynhaven around 5:45am and ran slowly out to the lighthouse. Rookie asked what those silver fish were jumpimg in the boats wake so we stopped and dropped lines. Had out Chartruese stretch 25' , three mojo daisy chains in chart., white, and bubblegum, chart. & green chesapeake spoon, and a bubblegum stretch 25'. About thirty seconds and we had a knock down. 35" striper on board. for the next hour and a half it was bluefish, striper, bluefish, striper, ect. Trolled midday with no luck at all and then around 2:30 it turned on again just N/E of the lighthouse. We had three rods hooked up at a time with three and four 10+ lb. blues on a single daisychain. Had a few stripers mixed in. All in all with some dinged tackle and tired arms we had a great day! Think the two rookies on board might be a little spoiled now. action-smiley-033.gif

Strtch 25' bubblegum - 0
Bubblegum daisy chain - 0
Green fleck daisy chain - 3 blues, 1 striper
Chart. daisy chain - 10 blues, 4 striper

Sounds like a great day on the water. Are your Daisy Chain Bucktails tipped with anything (Shad or grubs)??

Good work. For me, it was one of the most expensive days I've had. I think I ended up losing 6 stretches yesterday. Ended up with 2 stripers and 4 blues. The striper were 38" and 34" and one of the blues was an inch short and a pound shy of a citation.

Oh and I forgot. I caught a striper and blue on the same stretch. The blue was on the front and the striper was on the back. The striper wasn't a keeper though, it came in at 27". It's the first I've seen of that. It brings me to an ethical question. It wasn't a keeper, but I don't know that the stiper was going to make it going back to the water. It looked like the blue tore him up pretty bad from fighting. Would you keep the striper risking a ticket, or throw it back not knowing if it was going to live? I threw it back not risking a ticket but didn't like doing it.
Hang Time
We caught 3 blues 27-30" on one chart. umbrella. What a pull! Thanks to the blues we have a lot of plastics to replace

I think in a situation like that it would be OK to put him back. He's definately not going to go to waste but get eaten up by a BlueFish....Not slamming you for keeping it but if you're worried about the fish going to waste, that's not gonna happen...something will eat that sucker quicker than you know what.

When fishing around a spot that is loaded with blues, anything I have that's made of rubber gets taken out quick.....a couple of spoons and stretches will do just fine for stripers when they're mixed in with the blues. Save you some money for sure.....Bob

Sounds like an awsome day. I have read quite a few post on Cape Henry. What Lighthouse are you talking about. (bearing/distance) is it directly east of the lighhouse on Damneck??
Knot Too Fast
The light house everyone is referencing is Cape Henry Light at the entrance to the bay (southern end/Virginia Beach).

6" shad bodies on the bucktails 12" shad bodies on the mojos. And yes we went through a lot of bodies, but you know what? I ain't complaining! Can't have that much fun at work and it does beat being skunked. Bring on the blues! smile.gif

hoping someone can help. was wondering what the average trolling speed is for striper. comparible to offshore big game or slower??? Thanks. Had a good day out today. No luck trying to troll but not sure if i was too fast or too slow but knocked the heck out of some small schoolies about mid way between lesner and the first island. man were the birds thick. lots of small ones but a couple decent ones mixed in. alot of fun with the plugs though.
