We had a couple of guys on the boat new to rock-fishing, one of which produced a consistent chum slick for the trip.
After a few good 37" rocks, fishing went cold for about a half an hour. Then the light umbrella rod doubled over and drag screaming...the sound we all love to hear. The fish immediately surfaced, the fight was on for about 10 minutes and then the fish was at the stern. Thanks to good team work, John, we netted the beast.
We stood in shock, giddy with laughter, in admiration of the biggest rock that has been in this boat. We measured the 48" on the boat and weighed back at Rudee 41.5 lb rock!
After we put the fish in the cooler, still giddy from the event and the fact that this fish dwarfed the others in the box, we noticed that the 80" snap swivel was shredded and wedged into the frame of the umbrella rig. I guess luck does have a lot to do with fishing and I'll take every bit of it!
I would like to post this picture but have had little success with the copy/paste out of "My Pictures."
