Full Version: Water Dog report 1/11
Virginia Beach Sport Fishing > VBSF.net Sport Fishing Forums > Chesapeake Bay & Coastal Waters to 15 miles (Ocean City MD to Hatteras NC)

Team Water Dog fished up the stripers Thursday. Turned right out of Rudee and found lots of bait and birds in shallow water about 3 miles south of the new Sandbridge construction. Unfortunatly that is ALL we found. No fish. After monitoring the radio traffic and various other electronic listening devices, we swallowed our pride, admiting we can't find fish and would have to poach someone else's and headed for Cape Boat Chaos aka Cape Henry. I hate fishing in that morass of boats, it takes a lot of pleasure out of the whole thing, but what are you going to do?
Anyway, after sitting down on two schools and a dozen dinks and shorts later - we got in a good bait storm 1 mile off the lighthouse - right on top of the demarcation line. No fudging however. We got 7 fat boys - 31 to 39 inches, hitting all colors and baits at all depths. We were 3 short of our limit, so we got in a good bird hive 2 miles off of Rudee, but all that yielded was more shorts. Retreated to the dock for fuel, ammunition and consumption of liquid controlled substances to plan another attack this weekend.

Nice work. Thanks for the report. I hope to make it out tomorrow. Wanted to go today but the crew bailed on me. I hate fishing on the weekends during striper season but the Ws failed me this week. Weather, work and wives. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the report, so nothing was going on down south? Actually I like it when the bite is close. Runs to NC are for guys with fat wallets.

Great report.

Heading out tomorrow out of LC around 8:00ish. Taking a guy out who hasn't done this before.

Gonna try to dodge the parking lot and find some without all the hassle of the fleet.

Do you guys just yell on 68 if you find them or do you move to another channel?

If you want a report or want to share info on a bite, try me on my cell phone, 267-981-6607. I'm hoping to be at the ramp (Lynnhaven) by 6AM. I also monitor 68 and 72 but the cell is the best way. The plan is to try Cape Henry and VA Bch oceanfront. I may head south some but I don't have the fuel capacity for a long run.

Best thing to do is troll the board the night before to find out who will be out and carry your trusty VBSF contact list (generated by the honorable Charlie Sneed aka Donna Sea). Once on the water, try to make contact with others from the board so you can spread out, establish a comms plan (vhf channels for contact when the regular channels get too full), and share intel. Its like having a boat that can cover many miles of real etsate instantly.

Thanks Brett
EARLYTIMES
Striper concentrations are between the CH demarcation line and Rudee Inlet. Just look for the boat traffic. Fish in that area go to 40" regularly. Don't know where FinSeeker picked up his fat ones on Thursday as he never clicked his mike on. I can tell you FinSeeker was not at CH, VB oceanfront area or south to False Cape.

Thanks for the info, Early Times. Sometimes knowing where something is not can lead you to where it is.

I'll be going out on Saturday or Sunday. I'm not sure which day yet.

I should be there on Sunday.
