well...the tournament was everything I expected...A great time was had by all who attended. The team that won first and 2nd place were using Live Eels....Fin seeker won the big money coming in third but he entered all the Calcutta's, winning over 50,000 in cash. He caught his fish trolling.
I had a great time talking with Tom on Reelax, gonna get him out on my boat and try and get him to buy a Southport. Had some great discussions with the capt and team of Reel emotion, who put a respectable 116 # on the board the first day. We had lengthy discussions about the VBSF Blue Water Classic. Got Juggernaughts captain involed in the discussion, I think we'll see many more new boats in the competition next year.
had some great talks with George (Marlin maniac) and his Capt Harry, who love his Shamrock by the way...just ask him he'll tell ya ...lol...
Day one saw Team still think'n fishing right off the lighthouse at Cape Charles, we were pulling all the usual stuff...Secret spoon, Umbrella's, stretches, Mojo/EEl combo's...we ended up pulling in two nice Flounder and then the Dog Sharks came calling. We pulled lines and headed north up to a spot off Ship Shoal inlet. Great marks and some bird activity. We shift to an almost all EEL set up and start catching nice fish..nothing huge but decent fish we thought. I mark the spot with the MOB and we work this area the rest of the day..My chartplotter has figure 8's all through my MOB !....No slobs caught day 1 but we had 68 #'s of fish and thought we were OK until we saw the leader board.
Day 2 had our plan to run all the way to Wachapreague Sea buoy. We leave and 0600 and start our treck north, passing several very fishy looking spots we stuck to our plan. We get to our mark and have Tons of fish on the bottom...at lines in we troll Bigger eels (Tks MT Pockets) but don't get a hit. I make the call to pull up lines and run south, this is tournament fishing and we have minimul time to get on the fish. We don't really have time to wait for the bite to turn on. We head south and stop at some location which looked promising but didn't turn on...I pulled lines again and ended up at my MOB from the previous day...Lesson learned go to where you know there are fish.
Now there are quite a few boats on my MOB so we pull up a bit north of the fleet and deploy and all EEL spread and immediately get hammered by a nice fish. After Steady24 (Brian Steadman) fights the fish to the boat, Otter and George get him in the boat...On my digital scale he goes 46.3 pounds...we get a couple more nice fish in the boat (29.3 and 33.2#'s) when at the end of the day the Penn Senator gets hammered again. Steadman is on the rod again and says this fish is bigger than the first one. well we get excited...we finally get the fish up to the boat and Otter yells out...2 fish on..1 on the mojo and 1 on the eel, both 30 pound fish...dam, we thought we had a 60 pounder...well, that's about it for our fishing time...2PM came just as the Gannets were raining out of the sky, I swear the water looked like pearl Harbor with all the bullets hitting the water.
Great tournament...Good communications with George, Reelax, Reel Emotion, Oblivion (Dave Trax), all willing to share information via Cell Phones or Radio...We're gonna do some trailer work this morning and you may see Still Think'n out there this afternoon !.....Tight lines everybody...
P.S. I didn't win the tournament,,,,But I did win an all expense paid fishing excursion to Venezuela !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......Bob
