went out to the point area both days - fri with tmbeck and pete - got 2 fish on @1030 am we landed both of them and no other strikes the rest of the day, both hit blue and white spreader bars one with get reel shooters and the other with squid, and a get reel shooter trailing.
Sat - Donna Sea, Greg and Pete went out and we had a great time chattiing and watching the dolphin jump - there were hundreds to thousands of them out jumping 10-15 feet in the air, some landed on their right side slapping their head as they entered the water, others slapped their tails as they entered the water - were they just playing or was that behavior symbolic of something

The dolphin were like nothing I have ever seen before, even after a career in the navy. I got wet from the spray when they would come up beside the boat and slap their tail. It seemed like when they would leap really high, they would do it 2 or 3 times in a row.

Sounds like you had a great time. It seems like I always see something interesting when offshore. I thought you were talking about Mahi at first...my heart started beating faster!

Maybe they were trying to get you to follow them to where the tuna were! If we could talk to the animals, walk with the animals...... biggrin.gif

I shouldn't tell this, but truth is when we first saw them at a distance we thought they were tuna. It was exciting for a few minutes.

Good job guys on landing the double header! Sounds like the "Mini Bar" is at it again. Can't wait to get down there myself and give it a go.

Charlie,
Avatar looks great!!
FelixtheKat
Todd,

It was a pleasure fishing with you - hope we get to go again and get many more double headers.

Charlie,

Besides the dolfin jumping and all the puns that were jumping from everyones lips my ribs are hurting again from the laughter - what a day - next time hopefully we will get the fish boxes full.
That avatar is something else, nice work there.

Just got back from a trip in St petersburg Fla. Saw a pod of dolphin corral mullet over a sand flat on the coast guard base, they did it 3-4 times a day half the pod would chase the school over to the others waiting to eat, then they would trade places. Very smart animals!!!!

We fished that same pod of 1,000 or more dolphins 1/7/07 and limited out on yellowfin. The fish were full of squid. 2 weeks before in that same area it was 100's of whales with the same fishing result.
