Went out of Owl's creek this morning about 0500, stated out as a possible record day for the stripped one. We started trolling north around CH until daylight No hits. That was ok because we knew the bite was south, just wanted to move that way when we could see where we were going. At 0710 we started our track to the big ones. We got about a mile from the golf ball and started trollring. Boats were passing us moving further south. During the time we were trolling their was another boat (an 18 ft center console Parker NC1054) mind you that's 2 boats mine and the Parker. This AH ran up on my lines and and tangle them up with his. Needless to say we gave him some very choice words. This clown proceed to circle around my boat and started reeling the lines in (my lines were attached to his) and started cutting them. I told him that he had reeled in our lines with the lures and give them back to us. He looked at us gave us the finger and took off. That was very hard to take. We contacted the Marine Patrol gave them all the information about what happen and the boat ID. We regain our composure and stated fishing again. Bottom Line, O fish in the box and a lure thief is among us. And we got caught in the front that moved in.

With more reports of these type of things happening... I think a Potato Gun is gonna be kept onboard. Sorry to hear you had to deal with that. I hope they nail those scumbags.
honkeymarlin
I dont know about a potato gun, but the momentoes and diet coke might me a option.
skinnys-kid
Sorry to hear that!! That really sucks. From the fact that it was just to 2 of you fishing the same area, it sounds premeditated. Did the Marine Police say if they can do anything??

It's bad enough when tangles happen by accident or by inexperienced boaters...but this is bad! Always have a camera on board!!! Take pictures and we can Post em to death if nothing else. Good for VAMP reports too!
Troll 2000# Kevlar and rip his rods out of the gunnel next time!!!!

Mega Bite
He was truely a Circle Jerk
Fish Dad
If he was close enough to you for you to read his boat license number, then he was too close. What a jerk.

Dear Pony,
I was that 23 ft CC Parker. Your version is so different than mine and our experienced crew. I will not argue on this board . When someone has signaled he has a long line WTFB wait to cross his stern...instead of FU and keep running up on the boat....
Todd
Here We Go
Why did you keep his tackle? It's bad enough when things happen out there but keeping the man's tackle is not justification for the lines getting together.

I'd be a POMF if you did that to me.

I was with Todd and we tried to get our gear out of this guys way,but we were not quick enough,as we also lost some gear.We were NOT in the wrong and I will defend Todd on this sad situation.
Cap't Steve
Two boats, one ocean, hard to believe as it is, sounds like you were fighting over a bump on the sounder. Geez Louise !! hard_smiley.gif

You will get no satisfaction from VMP. I tried to report a so-called charter "captain" for ignoring COLREGS and got the run-around.
BillyBoy
Seems there is a discrepancy - Pony says 18' Parker, tmbeck says 23'. Kinda hard to confuse an 18' with a 23'...are you guys sure you're talking about the same incident? Both y'all claim to have been run up on...
KICKNBASS
I think it was the registration numbers that gave it away. But like yourself I thought it was kindof strange to mix up a 18 and 23 ft hull. I had to scroll back up to see it again for myself. I think the best thing for both of you to do would be to meet up somewhere and exchange $ and tackle. If not scratch it up as a loss and catch fish!!!!
going coastal
Why don't we hold "court" at the February meet and greet. Superjeff can be the judge and we can pick 12 boat captains as the jury. We could really turn this into a "fun time" and settle it once and for all.

I'm the son of a lawyer, I can represent one of them.
Flounder Pounder
Will there be golden beverages at the trial? Maybe there was to many beverages.

Last year I had a similar situation at the CBBT. The other boat was cool about it. Hard to say who's fault it was. We both were trying for that only striper in the bay. It was a screw up. But I had this guy on my boat who was pounding the beers and started shouting obsenities and wanted to fight. I told him go below and shut up! He passed out on the way in. At the dock, he did not know what we were talking about.
Donna Sea
I represented a Chief selectee during his initiation once. They ended up hanging both of us. That probably qualifies me for something.

The Judge is not required to have blood alcohol level test taken prior to the judgement -- woooow --- i want to read the conclusion -- has anyone required that it be in english

Ok, trial research.........Atlantic Ocean = 29,630,000 square miles......... 23 foot boat = 185 square feet........... two boats = 370 square feet... i guess one can quadruple that for the lines in the water that gives you
1480 square feet, we're still a pretty good stretch from 29MM square miles
FelixtheKat
is that math correct?

The fact that both these folks are on the Board says alot! There are always two sides to a story. Hope they work it out between themselves and maybe have a little fun in the process before we hold a Kangaroo Court. If you're on the Board you are doing something about being a better fisherman and having fun fishing, and are in a sense a family of local enthusiasts. We all make mistakes and hopefully learn something. Good luck at smoothing things out, and hope that both sides have a little thicker skin when all is said and done. If anybody needs a lure or two to settle hard feelings, give us a shout...its not worth ruining your fishing every time you think about it. Best to both of you guys!!!

When I first joined this board, I did so because I wanted to be in the company of (and receive the good advice of) good fisherman. Apparently I was wrong...as it has become apparent that the board is filled with CLOWNS!!!!!!!!! Thank You Randy well said.

I do not know Dave, but he makes a lot of sense. We all share the same common sickness and we are all amped up when birds or bait are located and lines are in.

I work the back of the Jobsite and we are always in constant communication with each other with regards to other boat locations and John the Captain will let others pass by 99% of the time before trying to out troll another boat. When all else fails take the high road and let others go in front. As a matter of fact we slowed down on Sunday to let another boat pass and had a double hook up, karma baby!

We all understand that rigs are expensive, and some of us invest a lot time as well to make them. But understand this we all need to stand as one against different battles such as legislature against menhaden fishing, protection of oyster harvesting, and the most important: agreed fishing times with our better halves!

I hope that both of you guys can resolve your issue and maybe make a friends with one another.

Sorry to soap box everyone, but I think we should all share what we have been given and not let small stuff get in the way.

Well, I do know Dave, and he still makes a lot of sense!! biggrin.gif And both he and Chris are right. It appears we have a difference in perception of the incident in question. It always looks different from the other boat. I've talked to Todd on several occasions and have no reason to believe he is anything but a competent, skipper. But obviously Pony feels he was wronged. A penalty has occurred, although it's not clear who is the guilty party. So, I think each of you has to do 3 penalty shots at the next meet and greet. One of Jager, one of Rumplemintz and the third to be named later. First one is on me! Or we can hang you both from the highest outrigger! angry-smiley-013.gif

I find this a bit amusing as we saw people apologizing at the ramp and had no idea of what they spoke as myself and another patron of this site were to busy trying to keep our eels on the hooks and in the water, what with the fish pulling our rods down. We were geting crippled up riging lines and hoping others were avoiding what little floats were in the water as all of this was going on. We were a little upset as well when we limited out and the fish were tailing out of the cooler under the console, not being to keep em iced down as we wanted. Ya'll keep pulling those lures, and burning that gas, fishing4.gif we appreciate the education you are giving the fish.
