Came out of Rudee at 7:15, thinking of the southern run. We saw a squadron of boats off 31st street, so we went north instead and decided to make scan through the fleet. Seeing nice bait balls we put out the spread and hooked up on 3 - one going 43 inches. That bite died off and we wandered inshore into 26 feet of water and got 3 more off the wooden pier -16th street. I noticed our strike pattern developing a string to the south, so guessing the fish and bait were moving in that direction, we moved south of the Inlet off of Dam Neck.
I was constantly being bothered by the cockpit crew whining and moaning about the cold and the wind. Wimps. I, of course, was sitting in the heated helm station (70 degrees) and drinking hot black coffee. Finally, in desperation to get rid of them, I charged a 16 oz stryofoam cup with Bicardi's Gold and gave it to them, which Randy and Rob promptly chugged, agreed to return to the pit and then they caught 2 more including another very heavy 43 incher.
Seriously, Randy worked his ass off all day to get our fish.
So our tally was 8 stripers, one captain's mast and one dead Bicardi.
Any one going tomorrow -- way south seemed very quiet. Most boats I heard on the radio had to work their way back north to catch fish.
Worth noting.
