I haven’t been out fishing since the end of December, so I was really raring to go today. The day didn’t start off very well, after getting out past the no wake sign at Lynnhaven the temperature sensor buzzer and light came on so we had to pull a u-turn and head back in angry.gif . After a 1 hour pit stop to replace the thermostats we were back on our way. Got out to Cape Henry and put our lines over and started to troll south. The bite was real slow but we kept trolling south, we final got a knockdown around the Ramada. As we continue to head south we spotted some birds working off Rudee so we pulled lines and headed on over before the crowd showed up. Once we got over to the spot we immediately had a fish on a Stretch 25, I hadn’t even gotten a chance to get my mojo’s over the side. From there it was complete chaos for the next hour with multiple hookups. I didn’t get a chance to measure any of the fish but I would say they were between 38” to 42”. Threw back a bunch and headed in for an early night. We were about 2.5 mile off the beach and the color of the day was chartreuse. Hope to get a few more days like this again before the season closes.

Saturday I got into Owls Creek and got the boat into the water with all of the crowd. Pulled it off the trailer and noticed I had no water exiting my Yahama through the pisser. There was no way to get back to the dock to check it out due to crowd. Picked up my crew and was on the way to the floating dock at Rudee to check it out. On the way water started coming out. I belive the water in my system was frozen either before or after my impeller. I was worried about an overheat as well. The engine warming thawed it out and it ran fine. After cleaning and flushing I blew the water out from my fresh water hook up so all exited my engine this time. Maybe this could have been the same problem? I have never had this happen before; however, it has not been this cold either.

I have had my indicator stream freeze as well. I keep a length of wire on board to route it out - also helps when the mud daubers have built a nest in it. It is worrisome when the stream is absent after start up. I always check the flush adaptor next. It will also tell you if there is good water pump pressure.

Nice job CB!! Thanks for the report. I talked with a guy at Owls Creek this mornng and he said the water temps came back up some. He was reading 42-44.

Great report. Glad the "Pit Stop" didn't take to long. biggrin.gif
Cool Change
You guys make sure to lower your engine/lower units to straight up and down or even better trimmed all the way down, tucked under the boat. This will ensure that any water left in the pisser or hub will drain before freezing. I live 300 miles inland and have had all makes of outboards. We keep ours in a covered slip overhanging the water. We have cooler weather than you and always practice this with no problems. I highly recommend Wall Mart oil as well, as we run all winter long with no geling problems as well. 1700 hours knock on wood.
