We hadn't been out on the boat for a few weeks and had heard of some schoolie action at HRBT, so we put away the heavy trolling gear, picked up a couple of light action spinners and headed out to the HRBT on a warm evening. The warm breeze felt really nice on the cool water, and although it was a little windy, the bay conditions were not bad at all. We left the marina just as it was getting dark, around 7:30 ish on an outgoing tide. We got to the HRBT and no boats (that'll change as of May) and easily anchored up. My water temp indicator was showing 49.6 in about 8 ft of water. Birds were working the other span, but we anchored up on the James river side and began casting storms. Didn't really feel like getting too serious and breaking out the kitchen sink so we just stuck with 6" storms. No fish, one bite (maybe) and that was it. We saw one other boat fishing in between the spans and trying the pilings, but looked like no luck for them either. So, the smell of skunk is still on the boat--guess I'll need to find a croaker or something before the karma turns around--but the boat did great and we're geared up for flounder season around the corner. May try for a tog or two before then. Anyway, had seen some questions about HRBT and thought I'd report in.

Tight Lines.

I think it was just those glass minnows that are out there that they were feeding on--just scooping 'em up off the top. the other boat tried under those birds, and nada. I think if we had been using something really small, like spec rigs, we could have done better, but we really just went out to get out on the water, didn't really mind not catchin' anything too much.
