Well I couldn't take it any more so I hooked up the boat, got a couple of my 6.5' medium action 7-15lb Ugly sticks and headed out for Old Point Comfort Marina on Ft Monroe.

Got there around 10:00 am, shot the bull with Dick while I picked up some new hooks, a box of Squid (New blue box this year) and a bag of Shrimp.

Spoke with a gentlemen coming in cause his wife was cold. He just got done doing basically what I was intending to do and didn't have any luck.

Anyway, got the to R14 bouy just off the HRBT and found out I left my knife at home that I use for cut bait. action-smiley-033.gif Back to the dock to take a bit of ribbing and to buy a new knife biggrin.gif

Back over to R14. Picked up a couple of small croakers on a traditional bottom rig with squid and shrimp. Squid seemed to be better 30-35' of water. Temp 51 degrees.

I then moved over to the eastern side of the HRBT and gave up on that pretty quick. Lots of weeds messing up my rig. Did catch 2 small stripers (released of course) casting a pearlheaded bucktail with a chartruese twister tail at the pilings.

Moved out to the Horseshoe area outside of Ft Monroe. Again, picked up some more croackers. Water depth of about 30-35' of water, water temp 52 degrees.

I hit all the traditional areas in and around the Hampton Bar out to Thimble Shoals light house with pretty much the same success. Seemed to do better using smaller bits of squid and casting in front of the boat to allow for the smaller/slower fish to get a good nibble on biggrin.gif

All in all a great day. Nothing great to report, fish wise, and in most cases I was alone or very few boats around me. Had the stereo cranked on 100.5 and consumed a couple of brews.

Don't have the history that some of you have on the bay so I have a question. Towards the end of fall last year, I came across alot of weeds also were I didn't see them in 2004/2005. Is this something new or what?

It seems that the weeds are usually an issue early and late in the year. There was a couple of days early spring last year that were real bad!

I fished around the HRBT and off of Ft. Monroe for stripers and looked for trout. No luck. I noticed the Sally-T off of Ft. Monroe. What are those guys fishing for? Croakers?

Good luck.

Thanks for the report Marty. At least someone got out. Some croaker is better than none. The fun is ahead of us. It will only get better from here.

Thanks for the report Marty, I feel your pain!!! I havn't been out in about 6 weeks....Bring Em In is just about ready to get some fresh blood on the deck as we are almost done with minor fixings..... At least you got to feel some pullage on the other end of the line today. Sounds like a good day on the water to me! Like my dad said, the fun is ahead of us. Looking forward to it!!!!! (South Paw) The Sally-T is fishing for croakers and what ever else decides to have a meal, striper, trout, flounder,etc.... Tight lines,

Last bilge I painted was the one located on AFS-5 (USS Concord), now TAFS-5 USNS Concord.

Got in some trouble with the shore patrol. Did a little Class Charlie liberty while on my first Med Cruise.

Well I'm glad to hear that at least the croakers are back in the bay. I can take the little ones out for some fun now. Thanks for the report!
