Got there around 10:00 am, shot the bull with Dick while I picked up some new hooks, a box of Squid (New blue box this year) and a bag of Shrimp.
Spoke with a gentlemen coming in cause his wife was cold. He just got done doing basically what I was intending to do and didn't have any luck.
Anyway, got the to R14 bouy just off the HRBT and found out I left my knife at home that I use for cut bait.
Back over to R14. Picked up a couple of small croakers on a traditional bottom rig with squid and shrimp. Squid seemed to be better 30-35' of water. Temp 51 degrees.
I then moved over to the eastern side of the HRBT and gave up on that pretty quick. Lots of weeds messing up my rig. Did catch 2 small stripers (released of course) casting a pearlheaded bucktail with a chartruese twister tail at the pilings.
Moved out to the Horseshoe area outside of Ft Monroe. Again, picked up some more croackers. Water depth of about 30-35' of water, water temp 52 degrees.
I hit all the traditional areas in and around the Hampton Bar out to Thimble Shoals light house with pretty much the same success. Seemed to do better using smaller bits of squid and casting in front of the boat to allow for the smaller/slower fish to get a good nibble on
All in all a great day. Nothing great to report, fish wise, and in most cases I was alone or very few boats around me. Had the stereo cranked on 100.5 and consumed a couple of brews.
Don't have the history that some of you have on the bay so I have a question. Towards the end of fall last year, I came across alot of weeds also were I didn't see them in 2004/2005. Is this something new or what?
