Decided to do a little tile fishing in my own boat for a change. So our maiden tile trip began at 6am, with light winds for most of the day. When we reached 300 feet, we dropped our baits. I immediately pulled up a 7 pound tile and 4 pound seabass. So we are in the right spot, pretty easy stuff. For the next few pulls, we have dogs. Ok, so we regroup and make a different drift. Next drop, I am pulling on something pulling back…and taking drag! Finally, my second Tilefish of the day weighs in at 18 lbs, 11oz….one ounce over the current pending record!! action-smiley-033.gif Oh well, it has to be at least 2 ounces over the current record, so there goes that… party-smiley-028.gif . (but there is more to come on that subject shortly… ) Robin's biggest tile weighs in at 13 pounds 10 ounces.
We catch nice tiles and seabass until we are decide we have enough, and head in. A great day on the water, and a near miss….maybe next time.

Pretty work Julie. One ounce from a world record. I can't imagine what that feels like. I guess a combination of elation for having captured such a large fish and dissapointment it didn't quite make the grade. If it's any consolation, I understand the non-record fish taste better! biggrin.gif Tight lines and I'm sure you'll chase that record fish down sooner or later.

Keep after'Em Julie, it's just matter of time!

Thanks Mike. You bet I had better have a method to preserve them, my Mom would have my hide. She loves fish, I could care less about eating them. A big juicy steak is my choice. food-smiley-002.gif

Agree on the beef. Filet, medium rare, Pinot Noir, room temp,,,,................,

Looking forward to building my angling skills and someday getting a useful pattern down.
