Decided to do a little tile fishing in my own boat for a change. So our maiden tile trip began at 6am, with light winds for most of the day. When we reached 300 feet, we dropped our baits. I immediately pulled up a 7 pound tile and 4 pound seabass. So we are in the right spot, pretty easy stuff. For the next few pulls, we have dogs. Ok, so we regroup and make a different drift. Next drop, I am pulling on something pulling back…and taking drag! Finally, my second Tilefish of the day weighs in at 18 lbs, 11oz….one ounce over the current pending record!!
We catch nice tiles and seabass until we are decide we have enough, and head in. A great day on the water, and a near miss….maybe next time.
