I'd have to say a good gaffer dolphin is my favorite. They can be hard chargers, they put up a fight, plus you get the air show. And not only are they a beautiful fish, they taste good too!!

I'm with you on the Blue Marlin, Mega Bite. Nothing quite like the dance you get out of one, or the thrill of watching a leap or tail walk. However, I may be in the first stages of Altzheimers, but in the last few months I've regained my appreciation for a quiet day drifting the channel edge for some flat ones. The prep work and clean up associated with a day offshore used to be a labor of love, now it's a pain. The Thimble Shoals Channel is right out my back door, and I don't need two days of prep work to go. I may start concentrating my efforts a little closer to home. Hell, I might even take up surf fishing. Sand spikes anyone?

Its almost scarey when they are as long as your boat.I have never seen such power but yet grace. They should be a protected fish no KILL Tournaments!

You're right Mega Bite. The time for kill Marlin Tournaments is past. Most have already made the move, the others have taken steps to ensure a minimum fish kills. The big killer though remains longliners. And while sale of Atlantic Blue Marlin is illegal, Pacific Blue Marlin are sold as food in stores and eaterys across the country. You don't see it much on the east coast, although the RFA picketed a Baltimore restaurant recently until it removed marlin from the menu. My brother in Cleveland has called me twice about Blue Marlin steaks for sale in grocery stores. I told him they were really lampreys from Lake Erie pressed into marlin sized patties. Needless to say, he didn't buy any.
