Hey Guys,
Quick report from yesterday on the tunnel. Headed out with an old buddy who grew up fishing the tunnel. We got out of Little Creek at about 10 AM. The tide reports had Dead Low at 9am So we figured we could catch an incoming all day. Don't know where we got our tide report but it wasnt even close. We got out there and it was still slack. He wanted to try jigging spoons by mile marker 12. Guess he's caught lots of trout, and blues that way but we struck out. Then we headed back to the curve by the third Island for some bottom bouncing. Ended up with 1 flounder and about 5 skates, all day. Nice flounder, but JUST SLOW! Radio was quiet too. Some toggers sounded like they had a good day but, we tried that at the end too with no luck. By 5 the wind picked up for a bumby ride back to Little Creek. But overall a good day considering the last time I went out of Little Creek in DEC I needed Tow boat US to bring me back when my Engine blew.

QUESTION: I've togged over wrecks before but on the bridge where are the best spots: Should I be directly over the Tunnel, Right off it, Next to one of the Islands??? Also I know Crab chunks work well here for bait but what are some other good alternatives??
Thanks for the help.

You cant go wrong with crab chunks but my favorite bait is fiddler crabs. They also work when the sheepshead are around. I fish for them next to the pilings close to the 3rd and 4th islands. I have also heard of some spots near the 2nd island but I have never had to try them out. Hope this helps.

Tide and current are two very different things at the mouth of the bay. Tide is vertical movement and current is horizontal movement. Try this site

I have heard all of those spots and rubble at the base of the pilings are all good. Last time I went out and tried all but over the tunnel and got skunked. The time before that I caught a bunch at the base of pilings.
Clam also works well but supposedly is less likely to catch larger togs. Sand fleas and hermit crabs also work.

That is a pretty cool site.

Glad you got out Andy. I haven't togged in a few years, but over the tunnel entrances along the rocks is good. Watch out for low tides as it can get pretty shallow fast. Along the pilings is great spots too. Good luck.
