Went this past sat. with 2 buddies and we got to the huntington ramp around 10am and there were at capacity so we went over to Jones Creek and put in. Water was rough in the river so we fished the creek for a couple of hours and got about a dozen medium croaks and a ton of small cats and oh yea don't throw by the grass line because I was getting double eels and a bottom rig ! Lol Finally said the heck with it about noon and went out to the Jrb ( stupid ) my boats too small for that washing machine ! We took a beating but got out there and it was rough so we fished the opposite side for several hours and caught around 40 big croaker with alot of small throw backs. It didn't seem that windy but that water was rollin. I assume it was the bad weather Richmond got the day before? Pulled the boat out and the wheel was rubbin my wheel guard and when I took a closer look I found out that I was missing about 5 leaf springs ! Rigged it up and only made it about a mile and the same thing happened. I went to a house where I was broke down because I didn't have any tools with me and borrowed some from a very nice gentleman and got back on the road and limped it back to Chesapeake. I offered him croaker and money and he said no thanks I just hope you get her home and good luck to ya.

Congrats on the fish and sorry to hear about the 'tough luck'...been there, done that. It was rough Saturday, I was @ the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and we decided to come in early and fished inside Lynnhaven Inlet.

Sorry to hear about the bad day.........I have been trying to find out a site.....or even and radio channel that they boats use in that area that would report the conditions in that area..........I drive from Sussex County.............and to find those conditions really breaks my sprit.

If you know of anything let me know.........I may even begin a campain with NOAA to begin reporting that area. usaflag.gif

Sorry to hear about a bad day! But atleast you got to catch some fish! You are right about the eels, you can catch alot of them by the grass beds at Jones Creek...They are a pain because they screw up everything, not to mention make everything slimey!!! I cant stand them. Glad to see you got into a bundle of croaker at the JRB! Nice report all in all biggrin.gif Glad you made it home safe as well! This past Saturday, saw a boat come in at Huntington with 5 keeper rockfish, biggest was 27'', what a fatty too! All caught on peeler crab by the JRB, thought I would throw that in there for those who are rockfish crazy such as myself! As for radio chatter, 68 works good for us and at times the ole trusty cell phone will work good as well! Thanks for the report, tight lines,

Thanks for the replies , I did live line a small croaker and had one run on it but I missed it. I caught a few in the Elizabeth like that last week. Good luck to ya guys and I hope to have the trailer fixed this week. I will have to sucker my brother in to going down to the Jordon boat ramp and go try to catch a few stripers while he puts my new springs and hardware on ! Lol He said how we going to do it with the trailer on there and when I told him he said that figures I should have known. If I do that on a week day will they bust my chops about working on it there ? Thanks again.

I was out there Satrday also fished Jones Creek with my 7 yo and caught tons of small crocker and catfish. He had a blast so that was all that counted was using Shrimp and squid with shrimp seeming to do better with the crocker and the catfish didnot seem to care. I let him talk me into bringing a mess of the cats home which we cut into nuggets rolled in cornmeal and fried up.

He is even more excited to add two more spicies to his yunior andgler card.

I use this site to get a basic idea, but I have seen them calling for 3 foot swells and get out there to less than 1. Overall though this site gives you a decent view of the weather and waves.
