For flounder, I have rigged the 3 way swivel with up to 10 oz wieghts trailing a bucktail teaser (green, white, pink, yada yada) on various length leaders (4-8'). I have tried squid, minnows, and bluefish as bait on the teaser. I have tried drifting (although being a rookie i have tried to stay out of the packs in respect for the guys that have a clue and a plan!) as well as bumping in and out of gear trying to stay around 1-1.5 kts. No luck, everytime has been between the 1st island and the small boat channel of the CBBT. I had better luck last year with a double bottom rig fishing for croaker, had several keepers each week.
The striper, have yet to try seriously for this fish this year. Plan on going early tomorrow AM and drop some small live croaker over the tubes. Drifted today to finish the day (and keep from getting totally skunked) right outside the jetties at LC and caught hald dozen around 6". How should I rig these? I was thinking of using a weight slide and 5' leader dropping over the tubes and hoping for Moby Dick. Is this plan even close to reality or are my ambitions (besides Moby) way in left field?
I have plenty of bucktails, gotcha plugs, swim shad, etc to cast but as i said, trying to not piss anyone off is a concern so getting into the mix with the groups around the island has not happened.
Besides the one day of blues we ran into the only thing i am catching is a sunburn and my limit of bud light!
ANY HELP IS MUCH MORE APPRECIATED THAN YOU KNOW!
Thanks and good luck to all this weekend!
