Stuggling with the pics. What a week! We caught 3 blues from 350#-400#. I actually got to reel in two as well. This was rare for me since i am usually just the mate. This time i got to angle as well. What a treat!!!!We had two of the three we almost killed, but they would have been just over 400. Until Thursdays big fish, we would have been on the board. We were in the running for the release division and could not risk loosing the release points to kill a boarderline fish. We ended up 5th out of 184 boats. Tough to swallow, but we have to feel good about fishing against some of the best boats in the world. Cant wait for next tournament.

Awesome job! Congrats to the entire crew! I disagree with your "just the mate" comment though. It takes a team to boat or release a billfish,a and the mate is a critical link. If the captain fails to drive over top of a marlin, or the mate fails to rig and present his baits properly, the angler is just deadweight on the boat. The angler has the easiest job of the three, the mate has the hardest. 5th in the Big Rock is a great week of fishing, especially when you get to bring in two blues yourself!

Great job!!! Nobody should be fooled that being a Mate is easy...but don't tell me they don't love what they are doing. Sounds like a great team effort and a chance for some well deserved "reel time".
Tight lines.

Thanks guys. Sorry that came out wrong, I didn't mean just a mate. Trust me, after 12yrs. I know that we are a very important part. My favorite part is making those mackerals and ballyhoo look like that are trying to swim past the boat, then the drop back and fish on. This trip i was reeling, an mating. I forgot how much work cranking on a big fish was hahaha.
Cant beat it!!!
