anyone willing to share some advice on where and how to catch sheepshead between the High Rise and the 3rd and 4th islands? We know the rigs and the baits pretty well, but are there certain depths of water they seem to prefer or any particular section of bridge seems more reliable than the rest? We caught 2 last year by mostly luck. One at a wreck off Fishermans Island and the other while spadefishing the pilings. We've tried the rocks at the 4th Island a bit, but only seem to catch triggers and the occasional tog. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and field tested for sure. help.gif

I have caught them between 4' down to the bottom. Just about any piling and around the rocks. If you don't get a bite in a couple of minute, move to the next piling. When you find them, it's game on. Check with Justin Hurst, he is the sheepshead guru... cool.gif

Thanks for the info. How about fiddlers vs. blue crab for bait? We have a hard time getting our hands on fiddlers on the Eastern Shore.

Thanks for the info. Do you catch your own fiddlers or just buy them? Are frozen fiddlers even worth trying? We only seem to be able to buy blue crabs on the Eastern Shore.
Great name on the boat. I'm on my second Panacea now, but she became the P-2 thanks to my fishing buddies.

u can catch em on hard crab, but id use fiddlers over a blue crab any time i could. a fiddler will outfish blue crab 99 of 100 days for sheepshead imho.

10-4 on the fiddlers. They will out fish the blue crab 10 to one. It is too easy for them to nibble the blue, they will just inhale the fiddlers. fishing4.gif

Does anyone know if they respond to chum? I've been wondering if sinking a chum basket down to the bottom would draw some fish in?

Also, can anyone tell me what kind of habitat fiddler crabs live in? Can you catch them yourself?

STEW MAN, don't forget to call Anderson's about bait!
