BLACK ADDER
Anyone have any info regarding Boston Mackeral? Called around to the wholesalers and big netters without any info. Please let us know! By the way,did you realize the starting weight for BM Va State Record is 3 lbs? Thats right big, but would like to hit a couple this year, anyway.

Well, I guess no answer is an answer in itself. The folks on line report Boston or Atlantic Mackeral at or below sustainable levels since the seventies, so unless somebody calls for a commercial/recreational moratorium, I guess Bo Macs have gone the way of the dinosaur, the Carolina Parakeet, and the National Hockey League!

I thought there were still plenty of them around- i just dont think they are targeted like they used to be. i posted the question on the seacraft board and got this reply today.

Craig,
We usually don't see the macks until mid to late May, and typically they're around good for only 2-3 weeks before the bluefish move in and scare them off. Last season they were around in good numbers just off Boston Light, but again they don't stick around long so livelining them is short-lived. The big bass sure do like 'em, but unfortunately the dogfish like them too. Who says dogfish are overfished?
