Hi
Where's the best place to buy ballyhoo around VB?
Thanks in advance.

Personally, there are no places here you can reliably walk into and walk out of with decent hoos. Most of the shops sell them, but you need to plan ahead and drive around and see what they've got. The best I found locally was Boater's World on Laskin. Killer Bee I think was the name of them. But that was 2 or 3 years ago and since then I started going in on the group buys from Baitmaster.

Ill give Long Bay Point a plug here, I believe they have bionic hoo, which is first class stuff.
OE2, I was dissappointed in their hoo, first of all it did not look right as far as size and color. Maybe it was a bad week? But they also keep their hoo in the back and Id rather pick through it myself and keep the guy from going back and forth.
Personally I got a case from Baitmasters in my freezer that I bought off the truck that Chumlord gets shipments from.
I too have bought hoo in a pinch at Boaters world on Laskin, I had no choice at 8:30 pm in November. It was Bionic Hoo and it was great stuff.
Like EVAK said, you never know. That is why I get it off the truck.
Ive been at the cigar with bad hoo, sucks burning 300 bucks worth of gas and your ballyhoo wont stay together.

LBP has some good stuff. Look for clear eyes and green poo and no blood...you'll be in great shape!

I've ordered it from Baitmasters in South Florida. They have a website and ship it right to your front door. Good bait so far...

I recently picked up some decent medium hoos from princess anne distributors on 17th and pacific. They were good enough to land 3 yft.

Ocean's east tackle has some good ones and their prices are not to bad plus their tackle section is very good. They are located off North Hampton Blvd right off I64. Good luck guys.

Call me old fasioned, and nothing against Chumlord, but I agree with Eric. I like to see what I'm buying. Also I prefer to spend my money with the local shops, especially ones that sponsor this board. That said, I've always gotten good Hoo from Long Point, Tom at Ocean's East gave me the horse ballyhoo I've used in rigging demo's at the meet and greets, and I used to order by the case from Princess Anne on 17th street when I was fishing a lot. I'll keep my money local as long as I continue to get good product. The only times I've bought bad hoo was when I bought them at the last minute and had to settle for whatever was in the bottom of the freezer. And if I was a bait shop, I wouldn't sell that crap to anyone regardless. But thats just my opinion.

I am all about supporting the local tackle shops as well... lord knows I spend a $hit load of money at all of them. As far as Ballyhoo is concerned nothing beats having your own personal supply on hand whenever you want. Baitmasters is hands down the best bait I have ever pulled and the bulk orders work out good for everyone. I know LBP sells Bionic and that is a very reputable name in bait. It's a personal choice, I prefer to have my top quality bait in my freezer ready to rig and buy my tackle at the local shops it's the best of both worlds!!!
If you want bait call me 757 407 5812 we are putting together an order right now, it will be here within two weeks, if not I highy recommend LBP's Bionic.

I just go down to Key West with my dad in February and catch all my summer bait....that way I can keep what I want and release the ones who need to do some push ups !....Bob
