Decided to make the 45nm trip from my dock to Hampton Bar. Took just under 1hour, 50 minutes. I probably could have made it in in less than 1hour, 30 minutes but I had to fight a awful northern head wind in the wider parts of the James.

Anyway, made it to the MM at about 9am. Fished the N.N. side with a few small croakers. Decided to head towards Hampton Bar...NOT! Didnt make it past the Weapons Pier. The wind was BRUTAL! Some spots it was 2-3' with caps everywhere. I decided to drift in the pots around the #20 nunn. Bingo! Caught a nice (but rough) drift towards the south Island @ the MM. Caught 4-6 flounder per pass. Ended up with a limit of 19", 19.5" 21", 22" and a super fat 23.75". All on live croaker and 1/2 oz Chartreuse bucktail/stinger combo.

Headed back to Colonial Heights with a full cooler and a empty wallet...smile.gif

Nice job out there, it was brutal, I saw it as I crossed the MM on my way to BassPro.
I was glad I wasn't on the water. Go ahead and call me a Wimp.
I'm glad your efforts were so greatly rewarded.

LOL. I went out against my better judgement concerning the Northern winds but like you said, it payed off. Plus, I have better luck with flounder in chop.

The wind really started to peter out around 2pm. All but 2 of the fish were caught during the morning slop. The big boy was first at about 10:30. There was only one other boat out there with me. A 21ish footer walk-around. Don't know how he did but he made a few passes in the deeper water.

Anyone else notice how thick the flounder are this year? Must have been a good winter/spring offshore, food wise. That 23-3/4" fish was near 3" thick in the middle.

Nice Job on the Limit of keepers, very few of those this year.

Yeah I did notice the fat flounde this year. I caught a 18.5" fish last week and his top fillet was almost an inch thick, I remember thinking this is barely a keeper?

How big were your croaker? I'm always interested in bait size, presentation and the like, trying to learn what I can. costumed-smiley-089.gif
