im new to fishing in the ches bay.. is there any good spots to try?

If you have a boat the CBBT is always a good bet!
madmike81
me and a buddy went out there to the fourth island and all we caught was rays and skates and a few lil black sea bass

Some days it is like that. Just keep working the islands, the IMG and the bend.

In my opinion, you can't beat the CBBT for the variety of fish available. Maybe the Chesapeake light tower but I have not been fortunate enough to be able to fish that area yet, I do not think my c.s. 16dlx will make it there and back on a 6 gallon tank, but I am itching to get out there and give it a try. food-smiley-004.gif smilie_flagge13.gif usaflag.gif vbsf_th.jpg

Just my opinion but anybody with cut squid, a good bottom rig and the right drift can catch fish just about anyplace in the Bay. Thats what makes it some unique/fun to fish.

The CBBT is of course one of the best spots because it is a huge structure and holds almost every species you could imagine, however, don't forget about the following structures inside the bay. Fish listed are from fishing reports off this board or from my limited experience:

HRBT. Flounder, Specs, Spot, Striper, Croaker and I read a report today that someone caught a cobia there and spades at the Rock islands.

MMBT. Flounder, Specs, Spot, Striper, Croaker and there are a few reports of Spades from thier rock islands.

James River Bridge. Spot, Striper, Croaker and just up river you can catch Catfish.

Thimble Shoals light house. Flounder, Specs, Spot, Striper, Croaker, Cobia, Spades and sharks.

ODU Reef. Flounder, Spot, Croaker, Cobia, and sharks.

Channel ledges/Bouys. Flounder, Spot, Croaker, Cobia, Striper and sharks.

Go ahead and use google to find/locate these structures and the ramps or get a ADC map (I recommend both). Pay attention to the reports on this page and have a ball. I know I have for the last 2 and half years since selling my bass boat. biggrin.gif

nice one marty! hey madmike bottom bouncing is also not the only game in town. you can try reef dwelling (anchor and chum then fish with live and dead baits for cobia and drum). also the casting thing for trout in the creekmouths and grass beds. dont forget about striper season this fall either!

there are lots of spots, places and oppertunities out there. browse through the posts, and do some searches for different species. lots of trade secrets are brought up and discussed here.

but one you should try ... take a couple charters with some local guides and have them show you where, how, and what to target. Also get on some boats with the gang here.

good luck - bo
