We tried bottom fishing at the Rockpile ( off Hatteras Inlet ) when trolling was slow. Some Hatteras wrecks are in only 65 ft of water. Don't bother fishing there. You'll just get weenie sea bass. Go to the Rockpile or a deep wreck. When you are in 175 feet you're good to go. Almost any bait will do ( squid, cut bait, etc). We caught Triggerfish, Beeliners ( like Red Snapper) and Amberjack but there's more out there. When you're in the right spot you'll get hits as soon as you hit bottom if your bait makes it that far. You'll need at least 16 oz sinkers.
