Just returned from my yearly Ocracoke excursion. Was a blast to say the least.
Only was able to fish offshore 1 day during the week. It was tuesday the 3rd, we started out the inlet headed toward the Rockpile ~25 miles. We picked up a tremendous weedline about 18 miles off running N-S and trolled it for the day. Picked up 6 dolphin with the largest being 10lb. We were after wahoo, but only heard of 1 caught all day on the radio. Heard reports of another weedline 4 miles farther off, but action was slow there also. Also tried chunking at large mats of grass on the line, but could not stir any fish. Larger boats that could run off later in the week were catching limits each day.
Also, went flounder fishing in the inlet a few times, keeping 4 or 5 decent fish each time. Got sick of the bluefish bite one day, so that trip was cut short.
Went clamming almost everyday and 2 or 3 of us caught out boat limit of 200 within 30-45 minutes each day.
Nightlife with the locals was a blast as always along the creek and at The Pelican and Howards...sharing many beers, stories and having a good time.
But now, its back to work for a few days, and begin our preparation for the VB Tuna Tournament this weekend. Goodluck to everyone who is fishing!!!
