Got out and worked between the Fingers and 30 fathoms today. First time taking my own boat out and only the 3rd time offshoe period. Since it was me and two of my brothers and another friend, none of which have any offshore experience I decided to be very cautious and wait till sunrise to leave. So didn't get to the Fingers till 830 and lines not in till 9. Only hit all day was a 13lb Dolphin. Boy was I glad just not to get completely skunked.

All in all it was a good day though. Got out and back with no problems, it was a gorgeous day out there and I am definately hooked. Definately have a lot to learn. A day of fishin is better than a day at work anyday.

If anyone ever wants to go out let me know, I don't really know anyone that does this and I would be more than happy to take someone willing to teach me some things.

Thanks for all the help guys

Ryan,

It is good that you picked up that Dolphin. I am going out Tomorrow and plan to start at the fingers and move to the canyon. I would be glad to go out with you. I have been out about 50 times and know a few spots and tactics though I do not own my own boat. What luck have you had offshore? Have you hit a 100lb tuna yet? Or a Marlin? Let me know when you go next. I generally have off Sundays and Thursdays. Email me at chrisbufis@cox.net. BTW, what did you name your boat?

short comings
Congrats on the Mahi! It all takes time. Went out with another gentleman today who is kinda new to fishing offshore in this area at least. He had a few valuable lessons but it was a good day offshore. Had several good hookups despite not getting anyinto the boat. Let me know when you are looking to head out some time and we can see if our schedules work out. I have a decent assortment of offshore tackle, rigs, etc. which I'm happy to bring along. Just drop me a message.

I fished the same area and saw you out there. You did good I brought
the skunk home with me. But it sure was a pretty day.

Ryan, you got the toughest fish of the sea...the first one. It all gets better and easier from here. Next time out...box full!! Great job!!!

Thanks guys.

Chris I named the baot MandaLynn, after the wife. Figured she was nice enough to let me get the boat I could name it after her. Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend and I will be able to get out again.

As for the 100lber or the Marlin. Not Yet. I have caught a grand total for 4 Tuna (biggest 50lbs) and now 1 Dolphin.

I understand completely! All day and we finally picked up a single dolphin, not much bigger than the lure. Wrong place? wrong speed? wrong lures? wrong colors? too many variables.
