I'm a newbie on the board and hark from New Hill,NC. I'm going to Cape Charles/Oyster next Sunday (July 15) to fish Monday and Tuesday and would appreciate details on flounder, spot, and croaker fishing in the area.

I would really appreciate info on how to get to the "cell" area and bouys 36 and 42;i.e., what boat ramp to launch at and cautions on navigating to these locations. Any other info on current fishing hotspots in the area would greatly be appreciated.

hardrock,
I only fish out of cape charles once a year due to my work and traveling so my experience is very little so far. Nobody really talks on this site, my suggestion is to go to the general Va site. At least there folks are willing to help out.

Welcome to the board, I beg to differ on the last post. A lot of help can be gotten from the VBSF Members. These guys hold a wealth of information that they are more than happy to share. As far as what I know of the cell, not much. I fished up there once and when I did, I put in at Deltaville and ran straight across. If there is a boat ramp in Cape Charles, you pretty much just need to run up the bay a little ways. The Cell is marked well with buoys. Check out a Cap Seagull chart.

Sorry, its actually a bunch of sunken concrete structures. It has a big yellow buoy marking it. Like I said, I have only been there once. A lot of fish are caught there though. If you are putting in at Cape Charles, it really isn't a bad run to the high rise or the 4th island. Even the concrete ships are close.

Hello. I fish out of Oyster on a daily basis and will tell you that there are plenty of fish to catch if you can get the conditions right. I have to warn you to stay in the markers and don't try and cut any corners or you will be in the mud with a curl in your wheel. The state ramp in oyster is a very nice ramp and easy to use. Most people now are fishing for croakers and finding them is not hard to do..the area between the 7 and 5 markers will be fine...there will be other boats there as well. Good Luck. Dale

if you are looking for cobia you better stick with the Chesa peake bay on them...they do much better over there. All the other fish you mentioned are present on the oyster side... Reds on the beach front, Spades offshore structure, Flounder and trout in the channel slopes. Good luck.

very nice area for fishing... with the three boat ramps to choose from bay side, oyster, and the state park..

tried oyster on frida y, caught croakers ( you could fill up coolers with them) hooked into something on the smallest fishing rod i took out there with 10 lb line and fought something for an hour, chasing him with the boat so i would not be spooled the dam thing dragged me all over the place and very fast runs but i could not bring it to the surface ( small minnow was my bait) the dam thing stayed toward the middle of the channel .... the line broke as i tryed to horse him up and was thinking it was a stingray or skate because earlier i seen someone else playing with one..... thinking about it though it was very fast runs and quick direction changes.. (probably a tropyh fish)

the bayside on thursday crabbing all pregnant females and few small ones..
fishing mostly undersized sharks

the fourth island out of the park bay bridge tunnel... limit spade fish and few black drums on clams

the area itself is very nice... first hotel i stopped at was the rittenhouse closest one near oyster.... the guy said no eating and drinking in the room.... no coolers in the room... i said to the guy my uncle is diabetic and he needs the insulin to say cool and looked at me like i was from another planet....

most other hotels were way cheaper then his rate and you could drink and eat in the rooms and keep things cold..
( i have never head anything like before has anyone else) charging double the rate as the average and not allowing the guest to eat, drink, or keeps things cold in your room????

I've stayed at some very nice (and fisherman friendly) B&B's in the area with my wife. I prefer that to any hotel / motel along 13. bath.gif

just hope your not diabetic... told the guy my uncle needs to keep his insulin cold and asked about ref. or keeping a cooler in their room... insulin has to stay cold and keeping outside seems kind of silly.... that guy did not care i thought that was kind of rude... i can see a point that he wants the rooms to stay nice or whatever but to tell someone to keep their medicine outside and find a shady spot and someone could tamper with your medicine, is not good business....
