Went down to scout out Oregon Inlet Monday (by car, not boat). We stopped in a parking area about 10 miles south of the inlet and walked to the beach. The birds were going crazy about 1/4 mile off shore. Later we stopped at the fishing center and I talked to a guy who had been out on a charter that day. He said they went about 20 miles south of the inlet and worked back north. He got four fish.
