I see the regs are effective March 1. When do the flounder start biting around here? Looking forward to some doormats this spring.....

I am not sure but I think when the water temp reaches 65F or so. Last year was my first fishing this area with a boat and I didn't get the boat until May. Looking over my logbook, late August into early Sept. were my best months with somewhat of a lull in mid-late july. I think this was due to the large amounts of rain we were getting. Every trip between May and Sept resulted in at least a couple of keepers using mostly live minnows and cut bait. This year I have a castnet and will try using live menhadden.

these new regs will fill alot of coolers. shorebound anglers should do well. this means i'll be targeting other species more often. won't be hard to get a limit on any day. i think the lower size limit as well as bag will reduce fishing presure by allowing more undersized fish from previous years higher limits to be kept. i can remember many days of culling through a hundred fish just to get a bag limit or several keepers.
also a good rule to go by for the kickoff of the season is to look for the dogwoods to start blooming. there is an old saying "when the dogs are barking the fish are biting" i have found that the start of tog season is tied to the first blooms. just watch and see, reports from the henry and tower will start occuring with the first blooms.
this year i will start registering citation fish. in the past, i just never bothered to take the time. i guess it will be my little contribution to the boys from the state to help keeps tabs on the population. plus, i want to try and get 10 different species citations, who knows it may just be fun.
