Has anyelse besides me done some shark hunting in the barrier islands? Two weeks ago i pulled in a 6-footer after a gruesome 45minute fight on a little penn power stick we got at Chris'. He hammered a live croaker and WOULD NOT STOP! We ended up tieing a lifevest to the anchor and chased him down. If they stalled any longer he woulda spooled me for sure. Finally he decided to give us a chance to cut the leader and let him go. I was pretty much done after that. We got a 4-footer after that 1 and got some nice pictures---->

No all you catch out there are sandbar's (or browns my father thinks), and they don't tend to be the best eating. A lot of people have a mental thing about it because they urinate through their skin, but some people eat. You can keep a smaller one and see how u like it, but if not, they an awsome fight!

If you put dead baits on the bottom, you will spend your life wrestling Mr. Sandbar and his drinking buddy Raymond. Rig up a live spot or croaker on a float to take blacktips and spinners. They are much more fun to catch because of the way they jump, as well as better to eat. Check the regs. There are some sharks you can’t possess.

yeah there is a small list on ones that you cant keep.... black tips are good my largest was off palm beach inlet on the beach 6 ft 6 in ... using live mullet on 30 lb tackle... sharks are good eating in my opinion, i always try to gut them before they die so they dont do their urinate through the meat trick... but even so if you marinate in grapefruit juice for awhile that works well... smaller ones are always better..... i am debating if i should bring the old penn 9o ( not sure if that is too big for in there or not ) ... i cant wait to report when i get back...... leaving tonite around 4 am ..... fish on tight lines

Ive fished out ehre many times and havn't caught anything on my float bait, but many sharks on live on the bottom. Maybe I have been in the wrong spot for blacktips.

used to do it all the time in magothy channel, skidomre island, and around the back side of fisherman's island. it is a ton of fun in the shallow waters. we would chum and fish with live and dead croakers and spot mostly.

Yeh weve never caught anythig on bunker before. For some reason the'll only eat the croaker. We were short on croaker one time and had out 4 bunker rods and one with cut croaker, and they hit the croaker non-stop.

I get into em from the surf as often as possible... Only sharks Ill keep for the grill are blacktips and makos and we dont really see makos in the surf zone. trick to cleaning a shark is meat prepping. sever the main artery just behind the gills down to the spine, as well as making a cut down to the spine at the base of the tail. let em bleed for a minute roughly and then gut and skin asap. then soak in milk and ice bath for a few hours.... then grill with whatever you wanna season it with. I personally will take a few steaks and put em in a ziploc for a day marinating in ranch dressing and then grill the next eve.
If you ever wanna get on some big toothys from the surf lemme know. the blacktips have been a real nusiance lately. Been on em upto 8ft soo far this summer.

A north wind can make some chop....you won't have any problem finding croaker at the present time. Good luck.

The schoolie shark were tearing up cut mullet on Saturday. I was fishing from my kayak around Skidmore Island, had a few larger critters hooked as well but they spooled me (probably just as well). Oh yeah, I also caught a nice flounder on a live mullet. Beautiful place!
