Can anyone tell us where we could go to get some big sharks. Were in the area of the Salt Ponds. I know you guys can't stand catching them, but we like to fight them, so we'll catch them and leave the rest of the fish for you guys..ha ha. biggrin.gif

Anchor over any of the offshore wrecks or structure. shark_smiley.gif Tower reef, Santore, Doxey Girl, etc. Put out chum bag a few feet below the surface with menhaden, and a few clams mixed in. Float (baloons work good) two lines 40 yards back with live bluefish, spot, etc. Put two more back with a little weight and run these closer to boat. Use at least a 4/0 reel,9/0 double strength hooks, and wire leader. There are some real monsters out there. I also will bring some clam. Use the foot and float 2 rods for spades. Use the main body and fish the wreck you are anchored to for taug and sea bass. action-smiley-033.gif

We went today for Cobia out of back creek towards the poquoson flats 20 ft of water and nothing but sharks. back creek side of the channel for poquoson. Chum bags out and live croaker on the bottom. Boated six about 40-48in. Had one real good run that I had to tighten drag on or loose all the line and what a fight, but broke off.

Caught a 200# 80" Sandbar at the inner middle ground a few weeks ago while fishing for cobia. We kept getting bit off so I put a wire leader and a bigger hook so I could see what was down there. 6" croaker on a fishfinder rig. Chumming with bluefish and menhaden oil. Talk about a fight. About 50 minutes to get it to the boat. Big sharks are no joke.

Is 54" still the required length in the bay, to keep a shark. I know that's the length needed offshore.
I know Mako is good eating, What sharks in the Bay are good eating too??

join the "apex predators" tagging program angry-smiley-013.gif

blacktips are the only shark besides a mako worth even bothering... otherwise youll take a few bites and toss it out.... most people do... If I catch a shark, its going back in the drink.... end of story....

Caught 25 sharks east of the cell this Saturday while cobia fishing. All were 2-3’ and released unharmed, except for the few that broke the line and took my hook. No cobia.
