We catch them all the time when doing night operations as they are attracted to the lights but I never caught one that big. Usually they are 6-12". Make great dolphin bait. Sometimes the dolphin just cruise around the lights feeding on the squid, pretty cool looking at night with the lights.

These are west coast Humbolt squids.
They get 6 feet long and you would not want to be a diver when they are around or fall over board when fishing for them.
They will attack and tear apart anything in their path including hapless divers and fisher man.
The head boats go out for them on the west coast.

Ive dove in the Virgin Islands with 6 inch squids, kind of neat when you scare them the zoom away about 3ft and leave about a 1ft circle of ink. Obviously VI squid are babies.

How would even a 6ft squid kill a diver, especially with my dive knife stuck in it? smile.gif
Mega Bite
They have a nasty beak like a Parrot.
