Remarkably spry, she's coming to visit next weekend. We'll leave Richmond, launch in the Poquoson area and I was thinking of heading to York Spit. She has always been fond of Bluefish so I want to put her on them ( we'll probably throw clams at some Spades as well). Is York Spit as good a place as any right now? I know most fishermen consider them by-catch and a nusiance but we used to vacation at Hatteras in the 60s and I think she still has pleasant memories of 1/2 day charters in Hatteras inlet and broiled Bluefish dinners at Buxton's Cape Point ( long gone )restaurant. I think such a meal ran about 2.25 back then. Any input on baits, lures, tactics or location would be much appreciated

Put out a chum bag and they'll be there shortly.

There are taylor blues all over the bay right now. Bluefish rock is appropriately named. If you anchor up in that area and put out a chum bag, they'll be schooling in no time. You can put on a chunk of menhaden, or cast anything shiny and hard and they should devour it. They are all over the lightline at the HRBT as well if you are fishing after dark. I'm not familiar with York spit, but I don't think you'll have trouble if you're after bluefish.

Personally, I would put her on some spades, if the blues show up, double pullage.
