Rock N Reel
I have fished the bay for several years and am now finding that I want to fish for bigger varieties. It takes me about 35 minutes to be at the fourth island from Wallaces Marina and for my boat this is the best way to start out. I have fished the light tower a few times and it is not a bad run as I have a 26' Renken with a 185 gallon tank. I would appreciate any advice to go farther out without going to the Gulf. I have heard that the cleaver would be a good choice. Can I expect to catch much different than the tower. Is there any better choices within 30 or so miles of the fourth island

Welcome to the board!! You can hit the Triangle wrecks which are a litlle north of the Tower and east of the Cleaver. Great spots for Kings and smaller Mahi when the water is warm. Further out, about 40-45 miles, are the Fingers. Great spots for tuna, dolphin and Wahoo. Fingers can be spotty depending on water temps. SE of Rudee is the Hot Dog, about 32 miles from Rudee Inlet. Good king action possible along with false ablies, some tuna early in the year and possible mahi if water temps are right, Upper 70's to low 80's. Up north there is the 26 mile Hill off the Eastern Shore. Can be good spot for tuna...a lot of guys running from the shore hit the Hill before going out further to the Canyons.

Hope this helps!! If you ahve other questions, ask away!!

short comings
If you are looking to start out by making shorter runs, and your boat is trailered, I might personally suggest towing it south to OI or HI to start. Much shorter run for offshore fish while you get your feet wet.
