I get alot of Bmails asking what my spread is....I don't answer every one not becauase I'm hiding but don't have time...gonna post my spread here and you can take what you would like from it....and laugh at what you might think is funny...different spreads work for differnt boats...I just do what I've been taught from my Pops back in Florida and through trial and error fishing around here in the MId-atlantic.....This year almost 95 percent of my fishing lures have been a combination of "GET REEL LURES" (www.getreellure.com) and G&H Lures (www.build-a-lure.com).....they're both local guys and make some great stuff....
First rod I always put out is a combination Boone Bird with either a Green machine or a G&H Chugger behind with Ballyhoo. this goes off my Rocket launchers up top and goes pretty far back.....I've caught quite a few fish off this one when nothing else is happening...it's kinda like the last thing a fish sees when it decides it doesn't like what I've got in my spread...
right and left long rigger get my smallest baits which normally are G&H Sea-witches with mylar strips and meat...I"ve caught Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin and Mahi on these....when Meat fishing I tent to put my lines pretty far back to get them in cleaner water...center consoles generate more prop wash then the big dog sportfisherman....have caught most of my Wahoo and Mahi on the long rigger positions..also that is where the Blue Marlin was hooked on a G&H Sea witch last weekend.
Short riggers get bigger baits, either a Get Reel Conga line, Get reel TCB or occassionaly a islander with one of them having a horse ballyhoo on them. Alot of my Tuna come on the short rigger position...the Get Reel Conga Line is a killer for Tuna and Mahi...my biggest dolphin have come from here....The Short rigger is also where the 72# Citation YFT came on a few weeks ago.
my flat lines are always, always, always Get Reel TIKI-Bars with Shooters behind...these things are awesome in the water and create quite the ruckus. the majority of my Tuna have either been on the Tiki Bars or baits right around the Tiki Bars....these things are great....they're like the Mini-bars that Don makes but with birds a are bigger..
My Short flat lines go right in front of the Tiki bars closest to the boat. this gets a G&H Chugger and also normally a Cedar plug. The Cedar plug gets fished right in the prop wash....caught alot of fish in t his postioin...Tuna, Mahi, BFT, no Wahoo though...they tend to come on the longer lines or Planer for some reason.
I always run a Planer with a Islander or a Spoon using the bridle system on a bent butt rod with a Penn 70VSW reel. Haven't caught alot on the planer but it's always there.
If the conditions are right I"ll run a Tiki-bar down the middle right in the middle of the entire spread....used more as a teaser than anything else.
This is my normal starting spread and I"ll change up as my mood changes during t he day.
The week b4 I go fishing I spend at least two days prior going down to the fishing center and Fishermans' wharf and see what's happening. I try and talk to the Captains to see what's happening out there. Keith on Mega Bite has been very helpful this year and will gladly share information with you. We keep in touch on the radio when we're both out there..These are the guys that do this every day and can tell you what's happening with the fish and the water...
I also keep an eye on the Water temps and Chloryaphyl shots....I like to fish the edges of Blue/Green water if possible and target these areas when those conditions are out there.....
Keey an eye on the boards also...lots of good intel you can get if you listen and read carefully....
Good luck this weekend guys...I'm gonna be sitting this one out as the next two or three weekends I'll be fishing hard..gotta keep the home front happy !......
Again....I use all G&H and GET REEL LURES from Skinny's kid and Gusman...
